4-8 last year. Same players essentially that achieve 6-1 thus far. That's even lugging that loadstone of new coach-staff, new philosophy that is the radical antithesis of the prior "what can ya do?" coaching, zero S & T program, aimless loser practicing. Death threats might have come from players. Mullen is doing this with a weird QB, with so little experienced players, players younger than teams they face, etc. DM has taught these Gators how to earn the pride they need to compete.
All this and giving "wait 'til next year" new positive meaning. We've got 'Fighting Gators' again.

In the end, while the Gators improved in almost every phase this year, Third and Grantham appeared to be a real thing (at least in 2018).
Per the Athletic, Florida finished 84th in the nation in third down efficiency success rate.

While we all noticed key examples of giving up third and long first downs, the reason I'm most surprised by this is all the improved pass-rush statistics suggest we would have excelled on third and long, but we didn't. On 1st and 2nd downs, we sacrificed run defense strength to get to the passer and improve coverage, which definitely helped with early down sacks, but it did seem we often didn't have pressure on key third and long situations. This stat seems to prove that reality. Hopefully we see a bit more commitment to stop the run this upcoming year with personnel choices.
