I have done the Manitou Springs Incline. It is really difficult but actually a lot of fun. In less than a mile, one gains about 2000 feet of elevation.

Haha. Yes, it is fun and there are a whole bunch of steps so...

When I did the Incline a few years ago I took my time both because I was unable to go fast and because I was already oxygen deprived since Colorado Springs is ~9000 feet above sea level... I was watching people pass me like I was going backwards. Then I spotted a guy coming up behind me that looked like something from the movie Predator. When he finally caught up with me he was wearing an oxygen restriction mask. The guy was a freak of nature physically...
