Yes. That’s an interesting dynamic. Will Miles notes that there’s not much difference on balance between guys ranked say 350 and 650 or 850 in terms of eventual success starting, playing well, getting drafted, etc.

Although we’ll see great players emerge every year from 3 or even 2 star rankings, they are the very few out of a huge pool. But something like 50% of the top 100 or top 10 at a position excel.

It’s kind of like the NFL finding a truly great WR, Tyreek Hill, out of a D-II place like West Alabama. Who even heard of it? He’s the diamond among every WR at all those types of schools. But a scout can look at the WR room at Alabama and half will be guys like Waddle, Jeudy, DaVonta Smith, Ridley, etc., and the other half will be 4-5* guys who don’t make it. But half do and that is the advantage of snagging 5* players consistently.

Look at the WR rooms at UF and TCU and the rankings don’t seem to have made any difference. We’re still looking for any of our recruits to excel, and one transfer has a spark we hope will return for one more year. Hopefully the new class will prove to be well scouted.

Just thinking out loud. Your point is well taken.
Yeah, Will Miles has been consistent about the fact that stars matter when it comes to the % that pan out in the long run. Statistically speaking he's not wrong.

Basically he says this:

Top 15ish are about 70% likely to be an NFL talent.
16-50 are about 50% likely.
51-100 around 40%.
100-600 about 20%.

It's those 100-600 you're talking about that sometimes end up really good. But, you gotta recruit 5 of them to find that diamond where the top 15 almost always are great. A lot of times when those lower ranked guys end up being elite, it's because they played HS ball for a team that wasn't very good so they didn't get a lot of scouting exposure.

Man they are really working the LOS'. Hopefully some resolution to the QB quandary soon. Get Walker and would just cap it off nicely.

Getting a nice OL haul from the portal!
Much needed.

The OL is going to be good to great depending how quickly they work as a unit.

Now there's just a need for a "game manager" type QB. We probably have one on campus already.

The O won't be flashy ... mostly run. Smash mouth.

Next season looks much brighter now. 7-5 ... maybe 8-4.

With consistent improvement on the field (Defense and STs), and a win against the Ball lickers, I'll be a happy camper.

If we land Walker, all of the angst over Tarquin, White & Rashada turns to dust in the wind.
Billy, the Walker kid is good. Listen to me.
