What was your dream car when you turned 16? ( This will certainly show your age. )

This was a spitting image of the car I had in high school (1969 Camaro... even the white interior), although I didn't go to high school in the late 60's :)
And mine was a fairly anemic 3-speed manual 230 cu in engine... but I had fun with it until I had to sell it for UF money.

      beautiful car!
My BFF in high school and college had her dad’s pristine 1964 1/2 convertible mustang. No power steering and I could barely reach the pedals because the seat wouldn’t go forward enough. Good times.

Jag XKE. Didn't I think I'd ever get one no. Later in life I did get one years after the stopped production, and when the prices hadn't gone through the roof. British electronics forced me to sell it about two months later.

There’s a song about unanswered prayers. Probably best that a 16 year old didn’t own a lemon. Aren’t the MG’s similar in reliability but they look cool?

We had a neighbor who had a '67 Mustang Convertible that looked just like this. I loved that car....

Around that age, my grandfather had just rebuilt a C2 corvette ('63-'67, I don't recall exactly what year his was). He also rebuilt a mustang from the same era, but I'd already preferred corvettes by that point. His was something like this, but with a deeper blue body (sparkly, almost like the old fiberglass ski boats of the 70's), red leather interior, and a white convertible top.

Still, to this day, my dream would be a vintage corvette with that color scheme. Though, I'm starting to lean to wanting a 1975 model (more for the year than the look), and to get matching 2025 model when available. It's the patriot in me.

I saw a guy a couple of weeks ago pull into the parking lot in a mid-70's Stingray.
I walked over a chatted with him for a few minutes.
It was a cream colored '75 / leather seats - with everything original - except the engine.
Engine blew a couple of years ago so the new one has maybe 4k miles on it.
His Dad bought it brand new back in the day so it's a single owner - numbers matching car.

I asked him if he were to sell it and he said that he actually wouldn't get a lot out of it compared to other earlier model year Corvettes. Less than $10k I believe he said...

                  Very similar to this one:

I wanted a Jeep. Finally bought one a few years later when they came out with the first Sahara edition. Drove that thing for 10 years.

1968 Mustang, my dad had one and I learned how to drive on it. Ended up getting a 2006 Mustang years later.

Well, I was dying to drive and started looking at vehicles when I was 13 because I knew I'd have to save up my own money in order to get anything.
So, after making my list, and checking it twice, it's clear that I didn't know anything about vehicles (then) and my options were "limited".

Here is the list of vehicles I was dying to get:
                              - Yamaha Motorcycle (new)
                              - Mitsubishi 3000GT (used)
                              - Toyota Celica Supra (used)
                              - Nissan 300ZX Turbo (used)
                              - Datsun 280Z (used)
                              - Nissan Sentra (knowing this was all I could probably afford, I already had the rims and tires picked out and a shop to tint the windows)

This is what I ended up getting (same color even):

LOL! I learned to drive in that exact vehicle (a shader lighter)! Hit a stump navigating a dirt road with my Dad but he didn't seem to be too upset by it... it wasn't like I dented the bumper on a luxury vehicle or anything.

In hindsight, I absolutely loved that car. I learned how to do all engine and transmission work and, growing up in St. Augustine, I could bog the rear tires a little bit and that thing would crawl ALL OVER the beaches. A pony keg would fit in the back and its hose could reach all the way to the front.

ended up with a '72 Buick instead:

Our community sprung up when the Gatorsports message board was shut down in the summer of 2014. We pride ourselves on offering Gator-biased, yet critical discussion among people of all different backgrounds. We are working every day to make sure our community is the best Gator message board you will find.

The management works very hard to make sure the community is running the best software, best designs, and all the other bells and whistles. Care to buy us a non-alcoholic Zima? We'd really appreciate it! Just click the "Donate" tab at the top of the page.
