First real job out of UF at some nuke plants in southern New Jersey. I sure as fuch was not going to live in southern New Jersey. 4 of us car pooled and drove 60 miles to work. We had 2 rules: we leave the meeting spot at 6:00 AM, no waiting. And no talking allowed in the car. You got a solid week to be the driver, then 3 weeks off. The commuting during those 4 years solidified that I will never have a commute like that ever again in my life. I lived all over the place in the 4 years that I worked there. Lived in South Philly for a year. Even lived in Elkton Maryland for awhile. I had to drive through 3 states when I lived there. I came to conclusion: that entire region is just a terrible place to live. All of it. If I had to do it now (which WILL NOT happen)... I would absolutely pick the southern New Jersey side. Very north central Florida like.
