The college football games were the best. The days those were released was almost as exciting as the real start of the season. I basically stopped playing when those were done. I still have a golf game I play some but it’s pretty rare. My oldest daughter (4) tried wii and loves it so it’s been fun to play some bowling and Mario kart with her. Sadly she’s not old enough to drive that on her own so I can show her the true joy of putting her into a wall of nailing her with a shell

She's old enough to learn that you can inflict your dominance with great force.

Trust me.... take advantage while you can because that window is small.

All right. My favorite games as a small kid we’re missile command and space invaders (Atari) and Qbert (Coleco vision). Then there were a bevy of Commodore 64 games. But for the life of me I can’t recall them. I think the command was something like*.*. Something like that.

Then there was (I think) Jordan versus bird?,

Around that same time there was also super tecmo mobile. How long was unstoppable on the edge, Bo Jackson was unstoppable running the ball. Lawrence Taylor was unstoppable in the middle, and Joe Montana could throw 80 yard bombs as you backed all the way to the end zone to launch haymakers.

Then came Mario brothers and then super Mario brothers. And then MegaMan, Mike Tysons punch out, and Super Contra. Or maybe it was just Contra. Oh and Pitfall and Super Motorcross.

And then the arcade games started coming out. RoboCop, double dragon, slaughterhouse, etc. I think there was a game called 1942? Where you are a giant airplane that destroyed everything in your path.

Although when I was younger we used to play arcade in bowling alleys and skating rinks. Off the top of my head I remember dig dug and whatever the game was were you hopped from tombstone to tombstone fighting zombies and ghosts. The other games above obviously came out after that.

And then a little bit later better graphic arcade games came in Mortal Kombat and streetfighter II. There were some earlier versions of streetfighter or similar type of games but they were nothing like streetfighter II. Of course there was then streetfighter II turbo which was crazy fun.

Later down the line came madden football and final fantasy 7. The last time I really played a Madden game was Madden98.

Final fantasy 7 is the greatest game I’ve probably ever played.

But nothing beat sitting in the skating rink in middle school and playing dig dug with my friends while the girls skated and we were too scared to talk to them.

I forgot about Zaxon. Loved that growing up.

I couldn’t remember the name of the game where you jump from tombstone tombstone in my last post. Was it ghosts and goblins? I don’t even know if that sounds right.

Donkey Kong Jr. was super fun as well. Remember the Simpsons game? That was really fun. Teenage mutant ninja turtles like you mentioned above was really fun as well.

And the game that gave me fits? Shinobi. I could never beat it.

Video games weren’t really around when I was a kid. I play Zelda with my seven year old son occasionally. He likes Madden and FIFA, as well.

Not even Arcade games? No Galaga, PacMan or Space Invaders?
                    Or do those count?

Those were around but I never got into them too much. Once I hit my teen years, it’s was all about the girlies.

actually not sure about the tombstone thing. Doesn't ring a bell. All the others you mentioned were definitely good ones tho.

Remember ET for Atari? Hardest game ever created lol.

just looked it up. Was Ghost and Goblins. The Smurf game was hard as hell too.

This one nailed many of the ones we talked about in here. I forgot about operation wolf. I spent a lot of quarters on that one.

I have hundreds of these games (including your tombstone game) on my upright old school arcade machine. Can even play Gauntlet with I think 4 players. So I still get to play Wizard of War, Elevator Action, Vanguard, Robitron, and Bosconian any time I want! It has Qbert, but it doesn't make the internal "knock" when you go off the edge like the original did.

Our community sprung up when the Gatorsports message board was shut down in the summer of 2014. We pride ourselves on offering Gator-biased, yet critical discussion among people of all different backgrounds. We are working every day to make sure our community is the best Gator message board you will find.

The management works very hard to make sure the community is running the best software, best designs, and all the other bells and whistles. Care to buy us a non-alcoholic Zima? We'd really appreciate it! Just click the "Donate" tab at the top of the page.
