OK - so the TV talk in a couple of Lounge threads got me to thinking about the TV shows I watched as a kid. Some have stood the test of time well, others I want to go back in time and kick my own preteen ass for having liked them. So which shows do you look back on and wonder, "What was I thinking?", and which of your childhood faves have withstood the test of time?

My "what the hell was thinking?" list includes (no particular order):
  1. Gilligan's Island
  2. The Brady Bunch
  3. The Monkees
  4. Three's Company
  5. Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley (The first couple of seasons of HD before they disappeared Chuck were good, but the whole Fonzie as a bad ass and water skiing in his jacket killed it)
My "I still enjoy them when I come across them" list:
  1. Star Trek (original - still must-see for me)
  2. M*A*S*H* (I can quote whole sections of dialog from some episodes from the Trapper/Henry years)
  3. Bugs Bunny cartoons (From the '40s and '50s)
  4. The Odd Couple
  5. Bonanza (Especially the years before Pernell Roberts left)
  6. Get Smart
There are likely more for both lists. What are yours?

The original bugs bunny cartoons are incredible.

Oddly enough, the Brady Bunch is perfect for my kids. Incredibly clean. It's not enjoyable to watch as an adult, but they love it.

The Cosby Show was great to watch as an adult, but it's almost impossible to find now.

The original Flintstones and Jetsons are awful. I was excited to show my kids those and was very disappointed.

I was on a plane a couple of years ago and there was an episode of "Welcome Back Kotter".
I used to love that show... and then while watching it on the plane...

you look back on and wonder, "What was I thinking?"

Just not funny - didn't hold up very well. Horshack was incredibly annoying.

I did recently watch a collection of the best scenes from The Three Stooges.
For some reason I still crack up watching those goofballs whack each other around.

You almost have to do a decade by decade type of list ... but during the 70's where I really wasted a lot of time (some of these were already in syndication):

1. PBS - World at War
2. Star Trek
3. The Twilight Zone and Night Gallery
4. Kolchack: The Night Stalker (Darrin McGavin)
5. All in The Family
6. Mork & Mindy (Pam Dawber of course)
7. Six Million Dollar Man
8. Good Times
9. Andy Griffith Show - (Barney and Ernest T used to kill me - actually they still do)
10. Hawaii 5-0
11. Emergency! ("...there's still a man in there!")
12. Hee Haw, Soul Train and American Bandstand
13. Starsky and Hutch
14. Dukes of Hazzard
15. One Day at a Time (Valerie Bertinelli :naughty: )

In the 80's it was mainly sports on tv and trying to pay bills after college so not a lot of TV time, but...:
Cheers, Miami Vice, Cosby Show and Sat Night Live...that was about it.

Ha. I forgot about Welcome Back, Kotter. Awful! (Up your nose with a rubber hose.) But I loved it as a kid.

I loved the World at War - and In Search Of... too.

1. PBS - World at War
2. Star Trek
3. The Twilight Zone and Night Gallery (Twilight Zone was awesome and still is)
4. Kolchack: The Night Stalker (Darrin McGavin) (I forgot about this - also one of my favorites and is still good)
5. All in The Family (Classic! 'Nuff said)
6. Mork & Mindy (Pam Dawber of course) (Meh - though it did launch Robin Willaims' career - and Pam Dawber was hot)
7. Six Million Dollar Man (Another classic - though that stupid Bigfoot storyline hurt it. I haven't seen it recently and don't know how it has held up over time)
8. Good Times (Liked it as a kid - awful as an adult)
9. Andy Griffith Show - (Barney and Ernest T used to kill me - actually they still do) (Classic even today)
10. Hawaii 5-0 (Never watched this much as a kid - though I liked Jack Lord as Felix Leiter in Dr. No)
11. Emergency! ("...there's still a man in there!") (One of my faves as a kid - Sunday nights on NBC. Still good)
12. Hee Haw, Soul Train and American Bandstand (No, no and no - never watched any of them)
13. Starsky and Hutch (Loved it as a kid - have't seen it as an adult)
14. Dukes of Hazzard (Loved it as a kid - have't seen it as an adult)
15. One Day at a Time (Valerie Bertinelli :naughty: ) (Valerie Bertinelli was hot, but this show was unwatchable!)

Great list, Diddy.

Ya know, I watched a ton of Bonanza as a kid, and I know who Marshall Dillon was, but I never got into Gunsmoke or Big Valley. I guess one western serial was enough for me... :lol2:

My kids have recently gotten into the Original Pink Panther cartoons. Holy crap, those are still very funny. The characters are shooting each other with guns and drinking and smoking. You would never see that stuff today.

My son has gotten into watching these old shows on Netflix. Watched the entire series of MacGyver a couple of Summers ago. I thinks he's pretty stoked for the new version this fall.
