I have watched a lot of UCF football over the last 5 years. Other than the year O' Leary left they have been pretty solid. They definitely deserve to be in a P5 conference. They would be in the top third of the ACC and Big 10, and top half of all of the others except the SEC.

The AAC is getting exposed this bowl season.

Mr "stars matter" doesn't think that the main issue is that UCF doesn't have a guy in the front seven with anywhere near the rating of his counterpart? I kid.

I'll grant you that you're going to see huge differences between WDE and the tackle in 4 man fronts but, at least in our league, the interior lineman and SDEs are heavier. While we haven't recruited many heavy interior DL it's the norm in our league for them to top 300# even when playing four fronts.

For example Auburn is mostly 4-3 over and runs 270-323-330-284 across the line.

Elko runs multiple fronts but A&M showed a lot of 4-man fronts this year. When they were it was 255-300-320-305 across the front.

To your point, Miss State ran 4-2-5 nickle like we did with both interior guys over 300. Their ends were quite a bit lighter than the league average but that was at least in part due to the scheme change. Both Green and Sweat were OLBs in the old scheme and were more or less forced into playing end due to the scheme change.

The weakside of UCF's defense is substantially lighter than what LSU saw this year from just about everyone. They don't match up well physically or talent wise. Do you not expect LSU to be able to line up and blow them off the line?

I was simply pointing out that DE's are usually much lighter than OL's; similarly w/ WR's vs CB's (in height). And we always see a broadcast point it out - as if it's an advantage to the offense. It's simply football. Unless you have an Alabama 3 man front, most 4-3 type teams line up DE's at 260-ish or lighter. Nothing more nothing less.

Yes, I think LSU can big-time out-talent UCF. LSU just announced more suspensions for this game, plus both starting CB's are out for the game. I think LSU wins, but they need to show up to play. UCF is like Boise from 10 years ago; they get up for the big games since they only have to play 1 or 2 "big games" per year.

Meh. I only partially agree. While it's true that Boise, like UCF was playing in an also ran conference, there are some major differences. For one, it took years of consistent success in the WAC before Boise before got a major bowl bid. I think there's also a vast difference in who the two schools were scheduling in that run. Boise played Oregon, Washington, Arkansas (when they had a pulse) and Va Tech (also when they had a pulse) to earn their bowl bids to play with the big boys and won a lot of those too. I'll grant you that they only had a couple of these games each year - but they did have a couple. Who has UCF played in this run?

There was one game of any note in UCF's run and that was an unmotivated Auburn. They have played no one else with a pulse above their weight class in this entire stretch and at times didn't look dominate inside their conference the way Boise did when it was slaughtering the WAC.

We'll see if I'm wrong - but I don't think a 50 gallon drum full of Viagra will get UCF up enough to compete with LSU for more than a half.

Boise was far better than Central.

Hell, Boise was a dominant team in 1AA, Central wasnt even good there.

There is, however, a huge difference in having a Fowler or Bullard type, 260-270, who can play the run also, vs sending 220-240 pounders out there.

If that's the case, then their AD White needs to get to work on getting them into a Big Boy conference.

I would agree with most of this. But top third, not. More like bottom half of most P5 conferences.

I'm sure Omar is spanking something thinking about it - but unless LSU sleep walks into this game there is only one prediction to make:
giphy.gif

With the lone exception of their nose tackle UCF is giving away 30-50 pounds along the line and about 1,500 spots in the recruit rankings. I'm not sure Coach O needs to do anything other than Yawr yawr yawr power left, yawr to bring about the most suffering by knights since Robert the Bruce hoisted them on schiltron formations at Bannockburn.
LSU is going to be without most of its starting defense. UCF is going to roll over them
