It still blows my mind that the fat kid in my driveway a few times a week with his friend Barry was Udonis Haslem. No way did I ever picture him as an NBAer. It was Barry I thought would make it.

            Great read.

most kids get their meals from schools.

our schools in Hillsborough County Are putting together a meal kits for the kids. As well as computers or tablets so that they can do distance learning. You’re able to go pick them up at the schools.

I love that article- he’s just telling his truth.

I would love for him to address the underlying issue(s) around why are all those kids in such a bad situation.
Donations are great for a period of time but that’s like taking aspirin for a long term constant headache.
Why not treat the cause and not the symptoms?

Yep there's a reason Udonis Haslem is still the sole team captain of the Miami Heat, even though he's in his 17th season and rarely plays anymore. Same reason that LBJ, Chris Bosh and D Wade all took less money in 2010 so the team could re-sign him.

That brother is all about drive and heart. He works as hard as he can at everything he does, and he does a lot. He has never forgotten where he came from and has dedicated his life to improving the lives of others. But he's no showboat like Colin Kaepernick or other so-called activists who are more about talk than action.

UD doesn't just show up to make appearances and give money away. He invests his time and money in businesses in impoverished neighborhoods, and puts people to work. He is Miami's team captain, in and out of the arena. He makes me proud to be a Gator, Heat fan, Miamian and American.

It's good for people to be aware of the things he wrote about in that column, even if just for a healthy dose of perspective.

I guess we can say that. He says he's a Cane, and that's the end of it. Too bad.

Being a Gator is/was a part of the UD experience. But it doesn't define him, and it's not the highest point on his life trajectory.

As Gordon posted, he does do a lot of good in Miami, is very hands-on and definitely cares, which is rare these days. And I get the love for his hometown and even the team he grew up loving(don't like it, but get it). But again, I respect him for that and his role on the Heat.

That said, if you're going to get a giant tattoo of the state of Florida on your back, even listing cities, would it kill him to actually have Gainesville as one of them? How about a Gator head or just an F? He's clearly put every other whimsical thought he ever had on his body. Why not that?

I'm sure it was just an honest oversight, like when Emmitt Smith "forgot" to include UF in his HOF speech.

I just hope you didn't spend too much time thinking about your displeasure, searching for the right meme to express said displeasure and then posting it.

Reading the whole article (which I had not done) showed more nuance and split loyalties (he still favors Gator basketball over Miami) - more than the headline would show.

all of yours and my contributions to this "gator forum" combined will never come close to this one play at a gator football game. I was there and saw it live. He had that ability to put you on the edge of your seat when he got the ball cause you knew something great could happen at ANY time......

Our community sprung up when the Gatorsports message board was shut down in the summer of 2014. We pride ourselves on offering Gator-biased, yet critical discussion among people of all different backgrounds. We are working every day to make sure our community is the best Gator message board you will find.
