The candidate pool is rather shallow in that world if you’re trying to avoid leftists and modern culture appeasers.
I was just editing my post to add...
Ono is probably about the best one can hope for... regardless of what he said about them, in the end: 1) he condemned Hamas almost immediately, then doubled down on it when the cosplayers went batschit crazy, 2) he bulldozed the cosplayer camp pretty quickly, 3) he schit canned the DEI programs... all in a state where he had more political pressure to support/continue those things than to do what he did. His quote this week was to the effect that all the leadership in the State of Florida from the gov/legislature to Board of Governors to Board of Trustees are aligned in their goals, and that is RARE." That really indicates that he leans far more one way than the other, and it's the "good" way.
To assess the "who has he pissed off score":
- On the left, he pissed off just about everyone.
- On the right, he's pissed off "not ready for prime time/clearly displaying his inexperience and lack of knowledge" Byron Donalds, and some obscure "true believer" guy at New College who Desantis probably could not get installed today.
Oh, and everyone seems to agree that he cares about sports.
I'll take it.
