Coincidentally or not, Pell had us convert to orange jerseys after coming over from Clemson. It got noticed but not as much as it might have otherwise had it not been accompanied by the change to the script helmet, which got even more notice. Some fans never warmed up to the orange, others did. It became the signature look of the '80s.

Two things Spurrier hated that got deep-sixed right away, fake grass and orange jerseys. I applauded both moves.

Is it just me, or do we never wear our blue jerseys and white pants at home anymore? I can't remember the last time we did. It's one of the best looking uniforms in all of football. It seems like Mushchump and and Mac came to UF with a goal to eliminate every single great record and tradition we had.

Gators wore blue for all of 79 except the last home game when they switched to orange.
Orange was worn as far back as the 40's.
Gary Darnell switched us back in the last home game of 89, sorry Steve you don't get credit ;)

Oh, record since 2010 in Orange 9-2, in blue 32-19 :stirpot:

Krono, you're probably right about '79, but do me a favor and find an example of us wearing blue jerseys. I'm on my phone. I can't.

BTW, nobody gives a hoot about Darnell. He was a half-month fill-in.

Great find!

Funny how the brain works. I can visualize one game from that season, FSU, which is where Pell broke out the orange. He was probably grasping for straws at that point. Boy, did things get better a year later.

The white helmet wouldn't be so bad if script Gators was on both sides and the ugly Foley F removed. Two different logos makes it look like a high school helmet or one you would see at one of the post-season all-star games.
