What did anyone expect him to say? He loves his ex-wife more than his current one?
Paul "Bear" Bryant was a HC at Maryland, Kentucky, Texas A&M, and Alabama. I don't see the hate and enmity at those first three schools at the mere mention of his name. Having made that observation here is mine. Meyer is like a pro vs. con comparison. You make your list and see which one has more weight. First the pros: two Natty's which is two more than UGA. In the follow up game to the UGA game where they did their field dance with a subsequent win Meyer the next year did the all three TO's at the end of the game when we were kicking their ass. Two SEC championships. A Heisman Trophy winner. An ass kicking persona/swagger for the Swamp. Tim Tebow. Cons: Aaron Hernandez. Domestic abuse cover-up. I for one feel grateful for the three natty's. One from SOS and two from Urbs. I've been a Gator fan since 1969 and an actual Gator since 1977. The years before 1982-84 with first Pell then Spurrier in 1990 was spent wondering in the college football wilderness. I for one don't think he will coach again not with that inoperable thing in his head bleeding into his brain. But we'll see. I for one will always wish him the best in whatever pursuit he follows.
Myer always says that kind of stuff. It's always whoever he's associated with at the moment who's the greatest at their job or position. You know, the "1% of the 1%". He's a hyperbolic aggrandizer.
jeez, its like espn is calling sainthood for lying POS urbs.... give me an effing break
If ND was in a position for a coach in 2 years he might have coached again but it looks like that timing won't work out good like it did with OSU.
Urban plays the brain cyst card only when its close to time for him to quit. It is benign and not growing and millions of people have the same condition. It has not been mentioned since he left Gainesville until this year. He will watch Nate play baseball at Cincinnati until he gets bored with it or Nate washes out. Then he will start putting out a few feelers.....it won't take long for him to get a killer "strike."
And that fake punt he ran on 4th and 11 in the conference championship game with the playoffs on the line.....
Personally, OSU was not an upgrade over UF. Maybe in resources, but not in the ability to win championships. He's an Ohio guy. That's why he took that job. Not because he could win more there. At some point in his retirement he's going to regret what he left here. We were a power before Saban was at Alabama. He had every opportunity here to emulate what Saban is doing.
I don't think he thinks of Florida much at all. I don't see that changing.
We could argue all day about what's a better job, but there's no arguing OSU is a top 5 job nationally. And "maybe in resources" is exactly why it's a top 5 job. They have resources and a fertile recruiting ground (yes, Ohio is full of very good HS football players) and they can cherry pick kids from practically anywhere. They're a national brand. And....they can make the playoffs easier than most conferences (had they lost a close game to Purdue they'd be in over Oklahoma this year). Also, their AD has made much more of a commitment than our AD did. No way he emulates what Saban has done at Alabama...not even close. But you're right, he's an Ohio guy and that was his coveted job. The way he BS'd his way out of UF will always leave a sour taste in Gator fans mouths.
Whoa now, it was Belicheat that introduced the world to Aaron Hernandez.
Why the HELL would this "raise eyebrows" in Austin and Gainesville? What did they expect Meyer to say when asked? "Yeah, Day is chopped liver when it comes to Mullen and Herman and he will be a disappointment to the program." That is one of the most idiotic posts I've ever run across.
I think it's the fact that he has to compare to his former coaches that bother people. He could indicate that Day is one of the best and worthy of the job and there wouldn't be a second thought but when you come out and say he's better than guys that helped you win national championships then it's going to raise eyebrows.
I certainly was not the only one but I called this before the season when OSU handed down that silly 3 game suspension instead of firing Creyer's A$$ immediately. they came up with this agreement that Leyer could come back after 3 games with the understanding that he would walk after the season. Kind of making it look like Liar left on his own. Hey Urbs
That was fast.
Watching the OSU-Meatchicken game Meyer looked ill and I couldn't help thinking that it was over for him. I can't hate on the guy, doesn't mean I like him. But to hate on him would negate two NC's, Tim tebow and various beatdowns of hated rivals. I don't know how you celebrate the victories and hate the coach that brought them without being duplicitous at best and schizophrenic and worst.
Ryan Day? No real search? If I was an OSU fan I'd be pissed.
Yep. They got the Dazzler treatment without the year long audition. No head coaching experience either. Ruh Roh.
