All I'm saying is I think Hevesy got it half right. If a secretary has an excited, positive reaction because you asked for a particular kid, then yes, that is an encouraging sign that he's a good, personable, well-liked kid. But the opposite does not necessarily hold true. If the secretary doesn't have an enthusiastic response it doesn't mean the kid is a, quote, "dud."
You’re treating it as an “either/or” scenario. I’d bet that a guy who has spent most of his career judging the character of high school athletes has the ability to discern whether a school secretary is enthused/not enthused about a kid, versus just being apathetic about the job in general.
