and now one of them has. We were either gonna win or start a coaching search. Option 2 it is. The way the players came out in that game was the biggest indictment of Muschamp. This was an ultimatum game for their head coach and his job, and that is the effort put forth? I think they are as ready to move on as the fans are. I do think the defense played well yesterday, and applaud their toughness.
On to the coaching search. Since this is the time fans get to pretend to be ADs I will list my top 3 coaches on the wishlist. (Not necessarily attainable)
1. John Gruden- Probably not the greatest pure "coach" available but the recruiting classes would be epic, and assistants do most of the coaching anyway. This hire would lend itself to the quickest turnaround, but the long term would be questionable. If I am Foley I back up a Brink's truck to Gruden's door and try and lure him out of the booth. (gonna be tough)
2. Art Briles- What he as done at Baylor is very hard to ignore. His offense is fun, exciting, and effective (who knew that was legal?). His defenses leave a lot to be desired, but I have to believe that would change with the right defensive coordinator and the defensive recruits he would get.
3. Dan Quinn- I know, I know. A d coordinator with no HBC experience sounds a little familiar, but with hindsight being 20/20 2012 has his fingerprints all over it. The in game adjustments in 2012 on the defensive side were some of the best coaching I have ever seen. A lot of us at the time figured it was Muschamp making the calls, but the adjustments dried up when Quinn moved on. It also wouldn't hurt to have him wave his Superbowl ring at recruits. The recruits these day are all about getting "turnt up" and playing with "swag", and when they watch the Quinn led Seahawks defense that is what they see.
Bonus: Chip Kelly- This would be the dream hire, but I don't think there is any way he leaves the Eagles.
