Elon wanted it stainless steel; bulletproof for the zombie apocalypse.

Stainless steel doesn't take or hold a bend as easily or as well as the softer steel most cars are made of (especially double curves).

If it was going to be stainless steel (and economical for mass production), he had to go flat and angular instead of curvy.

Ultimately, instead of compromising, he apparently leaned into the sharp and angular look with lots of flat planes.

I think it's ugly as sin, but I'm enamored by its performance.

Alex.
Cool but you won't be by it's body panel fitment or rust.....yes rust on SS....At least that's why someone I know got rid of one after less than 3 months of owning it.....oh and then there is the 20 plus K battery replacement a couple years down the road despite what they tell you.

It reminds me of the commercial kitchen sinks we used to have back when I was a Chef...

With the split rear window on the ‘63?
Yep.....I'll snap a couple of pics when I drop the Shelby back off in a week or so for re striping and other much needed TLC...There is always a couple of exotics in his shop and classic restorations. I never plan on being there for more than a few minutes but always end up staying for an hour when he walks me into the back of the shop to show me what he's working on and the back story of each.

I usually do leave feeling a little like where the f vck did I go wrong in life though...

It's not all about expensive toys. Just 96%.

I'm tellin' ya what though, and while I haven't read up on them regarding any issues of flaws, the latest iteration of the Corvette with the mid-engine and new body style is an absolute winner for me... finally shatters my aversion to them as "mid-life crises guy" car with "balding douche bag complete with pot-belly and young chick" cars. I would hands down choose one based on looks/mid-engine now over any of the europhag rides.
Those things are gorgeous and +1 on them no longer being mid-life crisis cars. The problem with them is, as of now, they have a ton of problems. The shifter has an issue which literally means replacing the transmission, and the engine eats camshafts if memory serves. The service departments are stacked up with warranty claim cars and the "base" Vettes are not moving (for a variety of reasons). Haven't driven one yet.

An acquaintance of mine has a black/red Z06 and it is absolute porn on 20s. He is the GM of one of the auctions I attend and he has a deal with one of the Chevy stores north of Atlanta. This is his 3rd C8 within 2(?) years. The GM keeps trading him out of them giving him full sticker each time LOL. I wonder if he will do that
when the ZR1 comes out.

Yeah... i have a hard and fast "no purchase for first 3 years of any total redesign" rule... like when the Gen 2 Raptors came out and they were mating the new 3.5T Ecoboost with the new 10 speed transmission... that's a hard no for me.

Agreed. The 3.5 Ecoboost is tricky- I had a SHO with 450 RWHP and never gave me trouble- had an 11 F150 with the 3.5 and the timing chain stretched- it ran, but would never pass emissions. Those are hit or miss for sure.

My 6.4L with 6 speed transmission now has 200,000+ miles on it... I just change the fluids, it runs.

The C8's are phenomenal but IMO the C7s look better.
But the performance of the C8's cannot be overlooked.
And their price is reasonable when you compare stats to similar cars of equal performance.
