How the heck are they going to replace pitcher and slugger Lauren Haeger arguably the greatest Gator softball player of all time? Good luck with that coach.

Go Gators! So where do the senior girls go from here?
I assume there's a pro league.

Yep, there's a pro league. So gals who want & have the ability can continue their dream-fun. Heck, if the "powers-that-be"
putts much $ promotion behind ladies softball as they do soccer, this would grow as fast or faster than soccer here in the US.

Well the pitching is already taken care of. Hopefully the batters will step up their game next year.

We lose 6 seniors. No reason not to think Walton has this program at the point where we just reload and go to Oklahoma City on a yearly basis. We know we have two live arms coming back along with the SEC POY.:chomp: Not saying three-peat, but saying we can at least return to the series a year from now.

And, I want some pizza. But good pizza, not that **** that the so-called pizza company based in that toilet Detroit, Little Caesars, puts out.:yum:

FYI:

We have the #1 player in OF Amanda Lorenz (who is such a good hitter and so dangerous that she's often been walked intentionally to lead off the game) coming in next year and #1 pitcher and number 2 player Kelly Barnhill (who throws in the low 70's and gets a ton of strikeouts) coming in next season, as well. We'll be fine!

A great article about Haeger. Scott512 said it. Haeger is probably the best player in UF softball history, and probably overlooked. Was she the best pitcher? No. Was she the best bitter? No. But, her combination of pitching and hitting and slugging is unreal. Plus she seemed to rise to the challenge and always turned it on at the right time.

And to answer Scott 512's question about pitching. Ocasio is the real deal, and Gourley is not slouch either.

Glad to hear NC Lady Gators have top freshman pitchers coming in next year. Ocasio, a freshman was great this year.
Our catcher and first base were excellent too - do either return ?

Lord, Michigan was so full of HR hitters & high batting average hitters that the logical conclusion is that the Big"10"
teams have only practice quality pitchers serving them up.

IIRC it was stated the girls got a bit uppity and complacent after game 1, Like a "look at me" approach and lost game 2, Then took it upon themselves to get back to being unselfish. IE when they ride team bus they each have their own thing playing on iphones or whatever but last night all watched and listened to same thing.

Basically UM jerked a knot in the Gator girl's tails, Looked like they needed it and responded correctly.

Congrats Lady Gators :chomp:

Both Munro (C) and Schwarz (1B) are juniors (will be seniors in the Fall).

Back in 2009 coach Walton said he wanted to build a UCLA type of softball program at Florida. Many scoffed at him. Now Florida is just the third team in college softball history to go back to back besides legendary softball programs at UCLA and Arizona. And dare I say the SEC the last 2 years has been deeper than the then PAC 10 was 10 or 20 years ago in their heyday. Well done to Walton and his staff. He has frustrated me at times over the years with lineups and style of play (when they were all or nothing in 2009) but there is no doubt he is one of the best coaches in the game right now and the best coach at Florida.

The area that he has improved the most is managing the talent on the team and getting the players to buy into being managed. A couple of years ago there was an internal revolt on the team and those players were let go. I believe that was the beginning of truly building the championship model we see today. Case in point, the all-time Gator leader in on-base percentage did not even play in the championship game. Walton has recognized who and what he has, has communicated with the players his expectations, and has done what he said he was going to do as far as performance and strategy. The players have accepted that, worked hard, and are champions because of it. Pretty cool in this day and age...

The fact we won it all, despite only hitting just above .300...which is low compared to a lot of teams..is a testament to how great our defense and pitching was this season.

Incredible.

Yeah, I hope next year people are saying our football and basketball teams are playing like girls. ...as long as they're referencing this, of course.

Congrats lady Gators!!!
