Well perhaps he should stay out of bars in Bama land, next he should press charges and a civil suit to the full extent of the law. Only jail and serious punishments will make any effect on others. Now if you could get away with it beating them severely might work but probably not. The Titans should also sue him after all he is a valuable employee that might have been injured.

To be fair, the guy who punched him apparently ran out of the bar after doing so.

Oddly enough, I can say I've gone through a similar situation as Mettenberger here. In 2010, the Friday night before the Alabama-Florida game in Tuscaloosa, I stayed in Auburn with my roommate at the time (he grew up there). We went out to a bar in Auburn that night, and there were like maybe 5 Alabama fans in the whole bar. Of course, I went to get a round of drinks for our group and happened to do so at the wrong time. Apparently while I was gone an Alabama fan had stumbled his way into a conversation with my friends. When I got back with the drinks, I remember handing my buddies a beer, and the next thing I knew I was on the ground.

Dude hit me in the face and before I even realized what happened and picked myself up from the ground, he had been pulled out from the bar by about four bouncers who had apparently seen him asking for trouble with my friends before I got back with the drinks. The bouncers all apologized profusely and I got free drinks the rest of the night.

Just saying, sometimes you don't even get a chance to hit them back. And for Mettenberger's sake as a pro athlete, probably best he didn't. That story can pretty easily get spun into "pro athlete maims bystander at bar." But yeah, Alabama fans. They'll do that.
