Only watched the Offense video thus far. Main takeaways, in order of emphasis:
- Our O-Line is blocking well for the most part*
- OC Dan M had a great plan and was calling the right plays at the right time**
- EJ's limited to a first read on nearly every play, but it was working against Bama.**
- EJ's best pass play is a bad throw with PI called on the defense.
- RBs all looked good*
- TEs did everything asked, including blocking.
- WRs did everything asked, including blocking AND making bad throws get a PI called on the defense
*O-Line opening holes to make the RBs look good, as well as stupendous protection on pass plays (sans occassional Reese ole plays) was the biggest statement. For me, I don't naturally see this level of the game, but his breakdown hightlights and explains it well. This blocking (running and passing) was HUGE in this game, and was done against Bama. Dumpers want to point out that this isn't elite Bama teams we're used to seeing...ok, but it's currently viewed as one of the best in the nation. Moreover, I still get PTSD over our O-Line blocking eachother, so having players that not only give a QB time (Trask says 'thanks'), but can also open big running lanes is something I'm not used to UF being able to do. Insert Muschamp and a midline statement as I recall play after play of runs up the middle for no gain. This is a nice progression for the program, and I hope it continues.
**OC play calling was well timed, and seemed to know what to expect from Bama and how to beat it. There's some credit due there. Additionally, those plays are getting the first read open, for a QB not capable to go more than one read deep in the progression. That takes a LOT of luck, and relies on the ability of all involved to execute, but also some intelligent play calling on what defense you expect to see and how to gain an advantage. It hurts a bit to realize the QB limitations, esp as a RS Jr with 3yrs to have learned - either he can't learn, or the staff can't teach. I think there's a good bit of both at work here. BUT, to succeed, you need to recognize your limitations (as player, as coaches) and work within and around them. Seems we did that on offense.
