If you have a dominant OL, you can game plan around your QB's strengths and weaknesses better. If you have a dominant defense, you can gameplan around around risk taking.

We'd all love to see an SOS offense, but I'd take a strong OL and run game over what we had this year. Plus I think he'll open it up more with capable QB's.
So many forget that the SOS offense was balanced. Yes, the ballcoach loved to dial up plays down the field yet at the end of the day he preferred to be in the neighborhood of 50/50 pass/ run. When Rhett or later Taylor were breaking off 7 yd runs followed up by a 15 yd run he would pound the rock and when it was there toss one over their heads for six. Certain posters conclude all Billy wants to do is run, run, run may not be comprehending his plan. It seems logical to gain control of the LOS (O and D), scheme to take what is there, use ST play to win field position, play aggressive D to demoralize the opponent. Run it all you want Coach as long as we dominate the LOS and devastate the Dawgs. BTW the Ragin Cagin QB so many are trashing as an awful passer will leave the school as it's 3rd all time passer in yards and 2nd with 54 TD's, boy he sucks, right!

Yeah, I dont get how anyone can turn a comment about wanting to focus heavily on the OL as it meaning we will run chump ball. Spurrier recruited some of the best OL we ever had and was the foundation of all his success in throwing it around the field. The couple UL games I did watch I appreciated that when they did throw it, it wasn't a bunch of sideways crap and it was downfield. The play calling looked to be good as well.

I saw a comment yesterday that noted his use of two coaches for OL led to a really solid group at ULL that worked well together and could really get into the second level of a defense with their blocking schemes.

It won't take to the middle of the 2nd season. We'll know by the Dec 2022. That'll give us as season to observe his staff, his game management, and recruiting and early signing day. In fact, it shouldn't take the whole season to get a feel for his staff and his game management.

The reason I say the second season is because I think he’s gonna have a rough start, and if he hasn’t figured out how to pivot at that point… he probably ain’t gonna make it.

I think Dooley's question was something about how Napier viewed rivalry games and if he approached them differently from other games. That was the one question he pretty much blew off as unworthy. Lol

The only cringe-worthy thing might have been his appreciation for what he got from McElwain. Public speaking wasn’t one of those things. I have to remind myself that McElwain was at one time highly regarded by Saban, so there were some redeeming qualities to learn from. However, I don’t believe he emulates Mac’s work ethic or staff requirements, so maybe he was just positively spinning a question meant to trip him up? He may look like Karl, but there’s a lot more going on in his brain than mustard and biscuits.

As usual, good take.

My concerns:
1. Talked about success in other sports (Foley influence??) It had nothing to do with football. Good for the Gators, but I want our football coach pushing back against attempts to divert resources away from the moneymaker.
2. I didn't love his offense or some of the play calls in that conference championship. He's coming here and calling his own plays? SOS he ain't. But - just win baby. If you do, I'll get used to it.
3. I'm not sure how he will play with the media here. He's not going to be a guy cracking jokes with reporters, publicly roasting our rivals, or even concerned with endearing himself to the media pool. In a spot where patience is going to be needed this could cause the self-important chuckleheads to attempt to create "noise in the system."
4. The comment on stars. Think he was saying he wants to make sure they are a fit. Hopefully he doesn't think he's going to win finding every diamond in the rough.

My pros are going to sound like I'm describing a serial killer - let's hope he is like Dexter; in that he stalks down and kills evil programs like ugly.

1. Highly organized.
2. Methodical.
3. Spoke candidly about being patient - he's not looking to make a splash.

You say this on the same board a number of posters were blowing their load all over about Mullen, even in year 3.... even through anyone who could see it was a clusterfck waiting to happen.

OX:

Very nice take...Again Outstanding. I'd like to see your assessments of Signings and Spring.

I think the descriptor you may have been looking for is "Salt of the Earth" (Some of y'all understand that term but many clearly do not)

This is why he was embraced in South Louisiana. It's much more simple here. We don't care what you look like...are you sincere?....Compare Napier to Brian Kelly...Kelly has already lost much of the LSU Fan Base.

Napier is a Family Man, a Spiritual Man (It's Real to him), Lives Football and truly CARES for the players as people. It come across to the families. His players, their HS Coaches and their families buy in.

I am far from a Football Guru...Experts describe his offense as "Simplified...easy for the QB". Napier relies on shifting, formations, and execution. They have very few flags, very few mental mistakes, run clean routes and play with intensity...even when the talent is not there.

He may not be an SOS...But what we need today is a Charlie Pell

Thanks OX.

Finally got around to watching the presser this morning, and what I came away with was how much I hate those pressers. The coach speak is comical after a while. He said all the right things though. The emphasis on recruiting was a welcome change. I dont see how this guy can be a complete failure at UF. He might eventually get fired for not winning enough but I think his commitment to recruiting and building up the off field facilities and staff will have positive effects on the program for the next decade. Even if he's not around to see it.

I did not want Mullen. I wanted Frost...Truth be told, I wanted Kerwin (I know...I know). I was told by MSU friends of mine Mullen was a creep...But the "requirements" were written for Mullen. He appeared to have changed...So I put on my O&B Glasses and wet Full Pumper....Sunshine...Rainbows and Lolli Pops

Many here were Spot On...All the hot sauce in the world can't fix the Crow I had to eat.

Again, unlike the last 3 HC...Napier is a "BUILDER" and seems to be "Genuine". First let him FIX recruiting and our relationships with HS...Then if you are unhappy...we can do this again.

This list of "concerns" is such silly nit-picking and complete overanalyzing it's hard to take seriously.

Apologies for not nut swinging.
At least tune in to reality. This "stars don't matter" concern is completely retarded. He had even said earlier that UF would be looking for a new coach if he wasn't able to add 25 premier players every year. He's got a ARMY (his words) of people working on this kind of stuff. He's a tireless recruiter by all accounts. Yet people are still worried about recruiting.

As far as the Gator sports media, who gives a ****? I'm pretty sure Napier doesn't. Those guys write ass-kissing stuff until the end. Rinse, repeat.

Yeah, no complaints from me. Doesn't look like a 13 year-old kid in 1993 with the baggy pants(not that I know of anyone that did that personally). Actually looks like he's trying to look presentable, unlike Mullen. Modern but not trendy/faddish. Best tie of the last 3 as well.

I’m relieved he didn’t go all out Bozo looking for orange leather dress shoes at Johnston & Murphy.

I think you meant Stacy Adams, but yes, I'm glad as well.

1. His talk of success was very pointed at winning the SEC. He minced no words on it either.

2. Whatever...thats an opinion and we are all entitled to our own. I thought the play calling was very good. Pass plays were down field and all the issues I saw were player execution vs play calling. He won the last two minutes of the first half.

3. You are just making biased crap up on this one. He handled the press great and reading stories from the ones asking the questions there isn't a single negative story about it out there.

4. He said many things on recruiting that you obviously missed. He made many references about getting all the alumni and businesses to pony up and support the players (NIL). He made several references to taking back the state of Florida by taking the best players here. He made many references to building a recruiting infrastructure that will go get those said players.

SOS was about 65/35 in the first half, run up the score and then 35/65 in the second half to kill the clock
