Yeah, like @Alumni Guy , I’m not sure how he’s starting off slow. He’s been a million places in just over 3 months, completely salvaged a recruiting class, has done marvels in not just getting the funding for staff increases but has them in place, changed the food and dorms, structured the NIL side of things, etc. There’s been literally nothing that indicates a “brick by brick”, slow approach thus far. I’d almost argue he’s a year or two ahead of schedule.

I’d say 78 is drunk, but I think we all just assume that at this point. And good for him. He’s earned a mid morning martini.
I too was wondering what the heck he was talking about. Hey, I love '78 as much as the next guy (pretty sure he is Ox's favorite poster), but on this one I think I'd at least see how the actual games go before I worry about whether CBN is moving at a good clip. If nothing else he's built what looks like a great staff and has created buzz among recruits. Not bad in a little over three months.

There’s only one Billy the Kid in Gator lore, and that was Billy Donovan.

That’s why I thought this was a basketball thread.

My head is spinning! I was getting ready to mock the guy from St. Augustine who thought 78 was talking about watching the city grow, not the grass, and then come to find out it was the worst breed of grass for 78 to use as an analogy anyway!

THREAD IS FANTASTIC!

Bright young guy, energetic, snappy buzz cut, says all the right things, is going about building in a highly organized fashion.

And yet I can't get jazzed. Not yet. Am I alone? Let me know.

You have coaches who build one agonizing block at a time and you have those who do fast fix. Spurrier fixed things. You could give him a diabetic and two paraplegics and still know he was gonna find a way to put up 35 before the half. Napier and his army of ants are on a mission to build an anthill one tiny grain at a time. It feels like being set up to watch St. Augustine grow. Zzzzzz.

I like fixers, but I'm pulling for the builder even if my time horizon says hell no.
First off, my window of trying to create a positive narrative for this hire is long over. If someone wants to bash Napier, they are in no danger of my mind camp. I may blast them, but won't ban them.

I can't speak for other fans, but I haven't been this "jazzed" in a long, long time. I haven't been this antsy for a season to start since 2009 - I am counting down the days. In the four months he's been here, where has he fallen short? He's already set up a foundation that's going to be rock-solid. Every time I see a blue-chip recruit leave his visit gushing (which happens over and over), I sit here nodding in satisfaction.

With it being obvious AR15 is the guy for this season, that's another reason to get pumped - he's our biggest talent since Tebow.

This is going to be a completely different team mentally. I'm pumped.

Truth be told, I masterfully hedged my bet by referring to Napier as a very fast-growing grass.

Nobody knows how the season will play out. We dont know if Billy is the guy long term or not BUT, I must say I cant remember a better run organization and beginning of the season in years. Not really sure I have ever seen better. Will that translate into wins? I dont know but I am damn sure happy with the possibilities I am seeing. GO GATORS!

I’m still optimistic about CBN, but there is only ONE Billy the Kid in Gator lore. Just like there is only ONE HBC, ONE Danny Boy and ONE Freak. If I were in charge, misuse of said nicknames would mean vacations and bans for several of you knuckleheads.

Go Gators!!!

Yeah bottom line, Billy Donovan was called Billy the Kid because he was 28 when he started at UF, literally the youngest head coach in the NCAA at the time.

Billy Napier is no kid. Come July he will be three years past the age of manhood.

Organization A+ plan
Culture A+ plan
Player evaluation & development A+ system
Staff build out A+, best of new HCs.
Recruiting A+ system in place for evaluation and communication.

Granted, it’s all talk at the moment and that is all it CAN be until we see “did” instead of”gonna.”

I don’t know why this post made me laugh out loud in public, but it happened. Probably shouldn’t be reading gatorchatter on my phone at a funeral.
