Who cares if he made one call or 100 calls. Time will tell if this is a good hire or not. Assistants are also important and I would like to keep both of ours if possible. Give it time and see what happens.

I was considering starting a thread on this. It's going to be interesting. Those guys are in really awkward positions. I hope they stay, but how do you stay when you've been part of the program on and off for so long and this 38 year old just waltzes in?

I'd personally prefer a guy who won his conference regular season title (I think he has three in two different conferences?) then a guy who won his conference tournament. Winning the regular season title is a sign of balance and consistency.

No one cares about the regular season in basketball...no one. It's all about March. Anyone who prefers winning some BS regular season title over getting into March Madness doesn't know what they are talking about.

He CONSISTENTLY **** the bed as the number one seed. So I guess he is CONSISTENT.

We agree to disagree. Have fun writing those checks.

Your old shtick is old.

Keep writing those checks counselor.

Hopefully, this guy works out.

I would love for Phelphrey to stay, but I would be very surprised if he did.

Also, this isn't a Muschamp hire. Muschamp had no head coach experience at all.

How has he "sh!t the bed" already when you have not even seen if this coach will be successful here?

How do you know he won't?
Fair enough, answer me this though, If we've spent the last 20 years building a top level basketball program shouldn't we have explored the option of finding a nationally known and proven coach? Be honest, had you ever even heard of him before last night?

Fair enough. Foley should have looked at a proven coach with name recognition, but he rarely does. And yes, the casual fan or recruit probably has no clue who Michael White is. White is going to have to prove himself.

Well you stay if this is the best opportunity for you and perhaps you have some investment in the program and the current players. You also need to have a decent relationship with the new guy.

Do folks quit when they don't get a promotion??? I sure never have, but then I am not a coach either.

So a nationally known coach makes them the automatic better choice?

And no, I had not heard of him but that doesn't mean it was a bad hire.

Simple question...would you rather have a proven guy or an unknown quantity that's never made an NC2A?

White may want his own guys, but Pelphrey could help out immensely. Retaining assistant coaches from the previous regime is almost non-existent in basketball.

The problem with him doing this at this time in basketball is that we are not "grandfathered in" as a basketball rich program like say Louisville, UK, UCLA and so on. If this coach doesn't work out it could put us 5-10 years behind being near the top again. Billy was a great coach but the program did not see the fruits of his labor for about 5 or 6 years....

OK I will take a shot:

First how do you know that others were not explored? Answer you don't.

Yes I have not heard of him until last night but then other than very famous coaches who are not coming I don't know them either. Major schools coaches are not coming, better to get a young coach who can build upon our success. Time will tell.

I would probably go with the proven guy but that doesn't mean I would have made the right hire.

I'm really hoping you never actually attended UF.

Well Gee thanks for identifying me as "no one". Now of course good performance in the regular season for UF leads to success in March.

I guess you don't watch any UF BBall until March, what a great fan. I watch every game that I can and root hard for good play and a win. Simple!!

And of course the SEC is a different animal, you win the regular season and generally you are in no matter what else happens.

Perfect hire. Same style of play as Donovan, young enough to stay awhile and with upside, well connected in Florida, SEC experience, track record of success.
