I believe he is better than he was a year ago. But, how do you quantify that amount, and is it enough of an improvement to move the offense consistently? We'll find out in 4 months. Until then, this is still better to read than most of the back-n-forth in the Political Forum.

Heard the same thing about Brantley, Driskel, Harris, Grier, LDR... now Franks.... let's wait until it is on the field.

I honestly haven't paid as much attention to this noise in my earlier years, but it does sound like an adult from a Peanuts movie (no self promotion on avatars).

But, for those that have listened for a long time...did we hear the same about Shane, Danny, Tebow as a freshman? Were they fluffed because there was nothing known at the time or were they recognize for talent early or was it hope-hype? Or is this more a matter of needing to sell clicks, so write something...anything...these days?

Honestly...I was going to say "click bait" but refrained. There's definitely a chunk of us that are desperate to grab onto anything at this point.

Shane was an unknown. Danny was heralded but that UK TD made him our next savior. Tebow was the next God(no pun intended).

The problem I have is the QBs you brought up both had assassins as the HBC. It's hard not to compare SOS/Meyer and Mac but the standard is there. IMHO, Mac is missing that edge. And yes, I understand that SOS and Meyer are two of the greatest coaches to prowl the sideline. Is it fair? You tell me?

I will believe it when I see it but hope he gets it down quick if he is our starter this season. It does scare me thinking what the real deal is when Mac purposely had him going against 3rd string DBs or walk on DBs in most of those passing plays and in all of the ones that went for 10 yards plus. Curious I went and looked at our 2016 Spring game and Mac didn't do that with LDR and he was going against 2nd stringers mostly and a couple of times against a starting DB. Why would the coach even try to avoid matchups with 2nd string DBs on those passing plays for your starting QB -didn't want the fans to see anything bad in the Spring game or just wanted to keep building his confidence?

The media atmosphere is different especially since the mass adoption of the internet and internet news media. Matthews was an unknown, but Spurrier was viewed as the same against SEC competition. I remember most articles being about Spurrier during Matthews first offseason. I remember Dean getting most the publicity, before Wuerfell's Redshirt Freshman offseason. I remember being at Football camp that Spring and Coach Al (Don't know his real name worked Pell through Spurrier in S&C) told me, "this kid will be the next Great Gator". He had only told me that once before and that was for Emmitt Smith.

Dean was getting the majority of the publicity going in to that season. Tebow was the savior once he signed the LOI, but that is after the shift in media.

I think people are dreaming if they think we will see any QB coming out like they did when Spurrier was here. Times were different for one thing. All of Spurrier's QBs had great numbers for the most part back then its just ones like Wuerffel had the extra "it" factor that ones like Dean didn't have. I do think if we have a young QB ready to break out you would get some buzz like you did with Tebow even though he had to wait until his 2nd year to start. With Franks it just seems the buzz is being forced kind of which usually isn't a good sign. Reminds me of the Driskel articles we used to get fed all the time.
