My cousin was in school at UF then and said he was a &#^$^@( I read the article and it said has drinking hard then and most of his family were alcoholics. He had many demons. Didnt SOS give him a coaching job. I had his autograph on a big gator sign after an SEC title (maybe the first one)
Well, I was in my 20's and he was in his late 50's

But yes, he had his issues with alcohol. He started talking to me and I just smiled and told him I knew who he was. He bet me a pitcher of beer that I didn't know his name. Easiest bet I've ever won.

I was there selling gator stuff. I told my buddy all those Texas oil millionaires were coming to Gville and buy all our stuff.
Didnt happen.
Elmo Wright did his end zone dance, I think he was the first to do it, after it was a laugh er for the Gators.

I had no idea he was born in Anniston, AL. I bet it was the same hospital as my two older kids. heck, it might've been in the same room too :scratchchin:

RIP John Reaves.

I have a couple of good John Reaves stories...
and maybe one about Layla...

I'll save those for when I'm feeling more verbose...

One of the most talented QBs in Gator history. His substance abuse issues prevented him from being much greater...in college, in the pros, and in coaching.

I'm too young to remember him as a Gator, but I watched him in the USFL with the Tampa Bay Bandits.

I hope he finally finds the peace that so eluded him in life. Thanks for all you did for Florida football.

We graduated together. Saw every home game he played in person. A great Gator player; rest in peace, John.
