Week 2 is in the books, and here are 10 stats that jumped out from Saturday.
Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson became the second player in FBS history with at least 300 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in consecutive games.
After a 47-35 win at North Carolina, Jackson already has more than 1,000 total yards on his own through two games. He went 25-for-39 passing for 393 yards and rushed for another 132 against UNC.
Boise State had won 101 consecutive games when leading by at least 21 points, before losing to No. 20 Washington State in triple-overtime.
That’s according to the ESPN team broadcasting the game. The Broncos led 31-10 in Pullman with about 10 minutes to play after a fumble return for a touchdown. But Washington State followed with a touchdown dive, a pick-six and another touchdown with 1:44 to go. In the third overtime, Washington State followed a Boise State field goal with the winning touchdown.
Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield is 10-0 in true road games, including 4-0 against top-10 teams.
In those 10 games, Mayfield has 35 touchdowns, five interceptions, a 71 percent completion rate and more than 3,000 passing yards.
Iowa recorded four touchdown drives of at least 89 yards in a 44-41 overtime win at Iowa State.
Maybe this offense really is different after Brian Ferentz was promoted to offensive coordinator in the offseason. Iowa threw the ball 41 times, its most attempts in a game since 2014. Quarterback Nate Stanley became the second Big Ten quarterback in the past 20 years to pass for 300 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions in a road game.
Notre Dame is 1-9 in its past 10 one-possession games, after a 20-19 loss to Georgia.
That lone win was 30-27 against Miami (Fla.) last year. Asked about what will be different to prevent a snowballing, a frustrated Kelly said, ”There's nothing different. I go to work every day, and I coach my football team.”
Michigan’s defense has scored more than it has allowed, and Michigan State’s offense has allowed more points than its defense.
The Wolverine defense has scored three touchdowns and allowed 17 points on the season (14 to Cincinnati, three to Florida).
Michigan State has allowed 24 points this season: 14 on two fumble return touchdowns by the offense and seven by a kick return touchdown. Only three points have actually been allowed by the defense, and those three were also after a turnover by the Michigan State offense.
Pitt had a 15-play drive go for 31 yards in an eight-minute span, and it ended in a punt.
The drive included two third-down conversions, a fourth-down conversion and a sack and penalty to set up 4th-and-22 before the punt. Seriously, that’s really hard to do.
That was the first of Pitt’s three 15-play drives. The second one went 77 yards over 5:30 and ended with a field goal, and the third one went 58 yards over 3:23 and ended with a sack and fumble.
Penn State ran 24 plays at halftime and led 14-3.
Clemson sacked Auburn 11 times. The most sacks Auburn has allowed in a season under Gus Malzahn is 19.
Auburn finished with 117 total yards and 0.9 yards per rush, when including the sacks. Clemson defensive end Austin Bryant recorded four of those sacks. It’s the first time since 1950 that Clemson has not allowed a touchdown in its first two games.
Dabo Swinney is now 12-8 against the SEC. That includes 4-5 against South Carolina. He’s also won eight of his last nine against top-15 teams.
Western Michigan wide receiver / cornerback Darius Phillips has three return touchdowns this season.
Last week, Phillips had a 100-yard kick return touchdown against USC. On Saturday, he had a 67-yard fumble return touchdown and 100-yard kick return touchdown against Michigan State. In his career, Phillips has 11 non-offensive touchdowns.
Eastern Michigan beat a Power 5 opponent for the first time, ending an 0-for-58 streak.
The Eagles beat Rutgers 16-13 in Piscataway. This win comes after EMU ended a two-decade bowl-less streak a year ago. Chris Creighton continues to take steps.
As for the third directional Michigan school, Central Michigan beat Kansas to give it a win over the Big 12 for the second year in a row.
