Do our receivers get any separation?

It seems like whenever Franks has time to throw he cannot find anybody. Are our receivers just that bad?

The scheme doesn’t get them separation. Our currently active WR corps isn’t great by any means. But the route trees look awful. Case in point, the tipped pass Swain caught against Vu. Two receivers(which of course also means two defenders) right on top of each other. Just brilliance by the staff.

Franks locks on to his primary target. He had a open guy had he looked left when he threw the pass into double coverage (Int). Powell his favorite target was wide open on an earlier play he missed out. SOS would have chewed him out and replaced him for missing these.

The receivers routes are sloppy. Only a few receivers actually run their actual routes and make proper cuts. Franks seems to lock on to the guys who are dependable in their route running, which is really one 2 or 3 guys. We have plays that with the poor route running putts 2 receivers within 5 yards of each other, and usually 3 DBs are with them. We haven't had a true WR coach in how long at Florida?

Kerry Dixon was never even a WR coach before he got here. Did he play WR as a player?

Started a Quarterback for Baylor and moved to Wide Reciever, before transferring to Hampton where he has stats as a QB (02,03 & 04) and WR ( 03).

We dont create miss matches and confusion with our current O. the routes are too easy to cover and most of the time the DB are running the route themselves. Why is that you think?
Anyone remember how difficult it was for SOS to even incorporate the shotgun?

Great points, we don't have a decent staff on offense especially. If receivers are not running the right routes correctly they need to be replaced. Surely they do this in practice, but with this staff perhaps not.

I think there is a reason we are bringing in a giant haul at WR for next season. We only have 3 solid options this year. Callaway, Cleveland, Toney. 1 was suspended, 2 injured, and 1 is also a true freshman who was a QB 6 months ago

I was watching some film room thing with Mac. Sounded like the plan (scheme) was to get 2-3 receivers in line down field (not on top of each other). So that the QB can see three receivers by looking down only one passing lane and then can pick the high, low or medium guy. Is this a common scheme? :dunno:
In any case Hammond and Swain don't seem to be adept at getting that separation. Listening to Mick/Lee on the radio they saw open receivers this game (prolly due to aTm's frosh DB's) that they had not seen in other games. But of course Franks didn't see them.
We took shots down field. One that Swain(?) couldn't hold on to. The one in the end zone. One that was complete. And at least one sack looked like he was dropping back for a bomb.
And while I'm rambling. It seems that they opened the playbook for Franks but he just can't execute.
I watched the offense-only plays on youtube last night. 9/10 2nd downs were runs between the tackles. I'm surprised that it is that consistent. The one 2nd and pass we attempted was sniffed out before the snap got off. In fact there were a lot of plays that the defense knew what we were doing before we did. Fck Nuss!
Generally I'm of the impression that either our recruits come in with natural ability or they have no hope of being coached up. Nobody is going to improve under this staff.

We haven’t had a decent WR corps since Billy G. left. I have to think that among the talented group of WRs on hand at least a handful will respond to him.

For the “Mullen doesn’t throw” crowd - he did when he had Dak Prescott. I think he’ll do what he can with what he has.

He did when he had Tebow as well.

We should see some separation now that MacNuss has been separated from UF.

Seriously we have an instant upgrade Gonzales and I expect to see marked improvement. But then, we can only go up.

I just went back and looked at the stats. With Tebow at the helm YPG passing was 257 (2007), 214 (2008) & 236 (2009).

MSU’s YPG passing with Dak was 240 (2013), 280 (2014) & 316 (2015).

When youre a Nusschump, and you get fired (aka encouraged to find another job) from Bammer, then get fired from Meatchiken, then get fired from Fla, and have had a half dozen blue chip QBs, all of whom either competely underperformed or failed, and you have four straight offenses that are 100th or worse...

It's not the QBs.
