I was watching some film room thing with Mac. Sounded like the plan (scheme) was to get 2-3 receivers in line down field (not on top of each other). So that the QB can see three receivers by looking down only one passing lane and then can pick the high, low or medium guy. Is this a common scheme? :dunno:

Yes, called generally "levels". But the thing is the guys aren't going to get separation if they know what play is coming bc the OC picks the same damn thing all the time. Morevover, it is generally only effective again zone and you are aiming to put the zone defender in a quandry at covering high or low. The general rule is "don't jump the chump" meaning the short guy is open, thus we open every series with a 1 yard screen pass.

Some OCs will run a play and have the ball go to one side or the other based on man or zone looks and certain formations. I didn't see that much. When you need to keep receivers in to help your putrid OL, then it doesn't work so well. Also, it's hard to wait for the deep routes to open when your QB is getting pounded bc of our turnstiles.

There is some more info but realize that each team has different ways of running. The concepts of what you are doing, essentially choosing a defender to challenge with certain routes are the same.
