What if Chip said “Scott, I’ve been talking to you for a week now, and I’m intrigued but I really need to meet the key decision makers face to face, and then I’ll sleep on it in a few days and make a decision. Otherwise it’s not going to work.”

What are you doing if something like that happens??
Got no answer to that other than prepare to be boarded.

It is probably a myth that UF and Kelly ever signed a contract in the first place. What's all this mumbo-jumbo about a contract with an out clause anyway? Win or lose to USF I am for Scott Frost.

I think it's become apparent there wasn't one. Recall Stricklin's words coming off the plane.

“There will probably be some more productive conversations in the days ahead. … Lot of interest in the job.”

Never in my life have I dreamt the naming of a new UF head coach would feel anticlimactic. I think I'm headed for a first.
Don’t you remember Foley flying to Oklahoma to pursue Stoops, then Denver for Mike Shanahan, and then to New Orleans and giving the job to Ron Zook? I’d say that was anticlimactic.

We got some posters on here that have a future at CNN. It’d be fun to name names, but this unfortunately is bad for all of us. And to be honest, everyone knows who they are anyway.

It should have been obvious to everyone that if a contract was signed Kelly would not have met with UCLA. You don't sign a contract and then go interview for another job.

If true, It sounds like SS and UF went after one of the best, if not the best, coaches available with a full-court press but still came with short. Assuming they didn’t make some “lowball” offer, I don’t see anything wrong with this approach. 90% of you, including me, would have been upset if they didn’t make the effort and put everything into it. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, blah blah blah. Someone wrote earlier that “you can’t make someone marry you“, if it wasn’t a good fit for Kelly then so be it and it’s better that he isn’t here looking for the next opportunity. If anyone is seriously criticizing UF on this, outside of a lowball offer that we don’t know about, I don’t get it. Following the rumors is fun, but they are only rumors. Who’s next on the list?

Good point, though my point had more to do with the exhaustiveness of the Kelly process. Nevertheless, you're right. Zook was a big letdown.

So we now have official word that Kelly has said no to the Gators? Verified by Colin Cowherd and Pat Forde? Yeah, those are two well connected insiders.

Think I'll wait for a little more reliable source before ranting and raving about how Kelly led us on a wild-goose chase.

And if he did sign a contract and ultimately decided that this wasn't the place for him, recruits would start to feel that and they would not come. We would be back to 3 stars and doing the McElstain dance once again.

We found ways to explain it away. There was the offset language in the Niners contract, then the out language we drew in the actual contract. THE PRESIDENT WAS THERE! We were living in la-la-land.
