Incoming transfers
Trevon Grimes (Ohio State) and
Van Jefferson (Ole Miss) don’t show up on Florida’s commitment list, but they’re already signed and count against the 2018 class.
Grimes (family health issues) and Jefferson (Ole Miss sanctions) could both receive NCAA waivers to play immediately next season. If that happens, these guys are essentially coming in like junior college transfers.
They have college experience (particularly Jefferson) and can contribute right away. Moreover, Grimes was a top-50 overall recruit in the Class of 2017 and Jefferson ranked top-150 overall in the 2015 class.
So it’s important for Florida fans to keep those two in mind when they look at the Gators’ class on signing day and see only a couple wide receivers on the commitment list.
UF is scheduled to host Under Armour All-American receivers
Jacob Copeland (Feb. 2) and
Justin Watkins (Jan. 19) before National Signing Day. They are also top-150 overall prospects, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
