"worst we can allow"? Is there some fund to disable recruits that don't choose Florida?
I have been out of the loop on the academic standards Florida is requiring for student athletes these days. Anyone have any data on how we stack up to the other SEC schools?
Yeah, it’s called get **** out Mullins fund. He has proven he can’t win more with less, so if he can’t recruit then **** him.

Oh I agree, but I think top 15 is the worst we can allow. Anything outside of 15 is an absolute failure. Outside top 10 is piss poor. I’d think top 7 should be the goal year in year out. Obviously you’d love to be top 5 or even top 3, but this is Mullen.

California theatrics screwed us, letting Seider along with some coaching hires screwed us.

Given where we are today, i’d be happy with top 12, but only because we already **** the bed

My guess is 17th or so is probably our ceiling in Rivals.

Actually Driskel threw a game winning TD the other day, and looks like he is passing Barkley as second string for the Bengals believe it or not.

May not be as bad as before but Driskel has never really earned his spot in the league. Cincy picked him up after SF cut him due to his physical traits.

It would be pretty funny watching Dipshytskel vs NFL defenses. He was a monkey with a rubik's cube vs Div1.

Right now we sure could use an HC & crew that could develop 3* to play like 4*, 5*s.??
Maybe DM gets our guys to that point where they realize that they can win & how to do so ?
But if he continues to accept sub-par recruiting, might he turn us into Mississippi State ?
He's got to fear the unsound of the cowbell.
We've got enough exciting talents that we can pull for it all to come together for fun footfall.
Could he turn us into MSU yes but is that what you really want? I dont want our program near MSU level. Mullen won the games he was supposed to win and lost the ones he was to lose mostly by blowout. He struggles again teams with more talent than he has. FSU, UGA have far more talent than we do as of right now and they continue to pull away from us on a daily basis because of how pathetic Mullen and Co have been on the trail. It's a joke at how many top 50 players we have in our own state. It's a joke were behind so many new HC in recruiting. He's just a joke imo he always has been.

Lord Kev, my post posited that Mullen turning us into MSU is a worry of ruinous horror. Thus that post contained ideas of the strained hope that being at UF might generate a "new" better DM or maybe not ?

I keep reading that Mullen struggles against teams with more talent but what coach doesn’t? If having talent wasn’t important teams like Bama and Ohio State wouldn’t recruit the top players every year. I’m not discrediting Saban’s coaching ability because he has proven to be the best but it helps tremendously to have the deepest team in the country year in and year out.

It isnt so much that every team has a tougher time vs quality opponents, of course they do. The problem is that Mullinz is historically bad, and is struggling to recruit at the level which might change his struggles.

When trying to understand a situation, I always like to look at the data. Here goes

Zook - 20, 2, 7
Meyer - 15, 2, 1, 3, 11, 2
Chump - 12, 3, 4, 8
Butters - 23, 14, 9
Mullen - 17, 32 as of today

These are the Rivals class rankings since 2002. As many have posted, Zook, Meyer and Chump all killed it in their second class. Butters was an abject failure across the board, so he should be the outlier, not the measuring stick. Where we sit today is extremely concerning.

There are 54 4 and 5 star recruits in the Rivals 100 in the state of Florida. Here's the current breakdown of those 54 recruits.

Undecided - 23
FSU - 9
Miami - 7
Arkansas - 2
Oregon - 2
Clemson - 2
Georgia - 2
Florida - 1

Not sure how anyone can look at this data and think we're going to be ok. We're getting out recruited in our own backyard by Arkansas for crying out loud.

Post this on Swamp Gas and you'll hear every excuse in the book.

I’m hoping that we show improvement on the field which in turn acts a a catalyst for players wanting to come to Florida again. Will Miles has shown us statistically that usually does not happen but I’m going to pump my sunshine until proven wrong.

This may be one of the dumber things said on this board. He's in his 3rd year with the bengals. He's the backup QB and playing very well. So well, he earned reps with the ones against Dallas. I imagine he will eventually get his shot as a starter if he keeps progressing as fast as he has. He was terrible at UF. It seems clear now that wasn't on Driskel. It was in MusChump and his awful coaching staff.

Driskel is shyt and always has been.

He isn't "on the Bengals team", he is on their scout squad.. He hasn't thrown a pass in the real NFL. He is only on the roster as an accounting trick. If they cut him, he goes back on waivers. SF is paying most of his salary.

He isn't the backup either. I suspect they will sign someone after they see that moron trying to pass vs live defenses. It would be fun to watch though.

That being said, they are the Bungles, blood brothers to the Browns. Maybe they are just shooting for the first draft pick. He would help on that front.

This is factually incorrect on multiple levels.

1. He's never been on the bengals practice squad. They wanted to put him there after claiming him off waivers in 2016, but it would expose him to being picked up. So, they added him to the roster. He's been on the 53 man ever since.

2. He progressed so quickly they were looking to trade McCarron last season, but Driskel broke his hand. That ended trade talks.

3. They brought Matt Barkley in to compete for the backup but he's now losing snaps to 7th round pick Logan Woodside. They aren't bringing in anyone else unless Driskel gets hurt.

The guy has had a fantastic preseason. As far as your post is concerned,

Do you KNOW what the fvkking practice squad is? They run the plays of the other team against the Benglas starting defense every week. Dipshytskel absolutely does this every day. I have a friend who watches him out the window. Frankly Dipshyt is pretty good at it because he can run and throw and mimick a few different kinds of offenses. Not many practice squad guys can run as fast or throw the ball 70 yards. It doesn't matter whether or not he completes the passes, they just need to see the DBs in the right positions and reacting properly.

I don't know who you are talking about with this progress. No one I know said this. They were getting rid of McCarron because his value was high and his contract ending. It is the same thing they always do, Reds or Bengals.

Barkley sucks, no doubt. I don't have great contacts with the Bengals but few think he stays. Few also think the Bengals arent hunting for another replacement for McCarron.

Do you KNOW what the fvkking practice squad is?

2016 practice squad:

  • DE Ryan Brown (rookie, Mississippi State)
  • WR Jake Kumerow (first-year player, Wisconsin-Whitewater)
  • CB Darius Hillary (rookie, Wisconsin)
  • TE Matt Lengel (first-year player, Eastern Kentucky)
  • HB Tra Carson (rookie, Texas A&M)
  • DT David Dean (rookie, Virginia)
  • G Alex Redmond (rookie, UCLA)
  • CB Tony McRae (rookie, North Carolina A&T)
  • WR Alonzo Russell (rookie, Toledo)
  • P.J. Dawson (second-year player, TCU; added after making the final roster and later getting waived)
2017 practice squad:

  • LB Brandon Bell (rookie, Penn State)
  • K Jake Elliott (rookie, Memphis)
  • OT Kent Perkins (rookie, Texas)
  • DT Josh Tupou (rookie, Colorado)
  • WR Kermit Whitfield (rookie, Florida State)
  • DT DeShawn Williams (second-year player, Clemson)
  • HB Jarveon Williams (rookie, Texas-San Antonio)
  • S Brandon Wilson (rookie, Houston)
Not seeing Driskel in there. He's officially part of the 53 man roster and has been since arriving. He hasn't thrown a pass because most 3rd stringers don't play. It says plenty about what they thought of him as the bengals hadn't carried a 3rd QB since 2010. Based on Dalton's injury history, Driskel will have a 50/50 shot to play in a regular season game this year. As far as this discussion, I'm done as you are a babbling moron and this is the recruiting thread. Although, derailing threads is the GatorChatter way.

So who’s the “practice” QB?
