This was a planned spot. They don’t just surprise each other like that. He doesn’t deny anything and talks positively about the job. Smiling the whole time... if this definitely wasn’t happening you would think he would deny it.!
He had every chance in the world on the second biggest sports information source (GCMB is #1) to deny and state he was not interested. I am with many on here with his body language. He is fixing to be UF's coach.

We've all seen this play out before, and the lack of denials is the indication we're close. No matter what the reason is for not getting it done yet, if and when the deal falls apart we'll know.

It’s possible Mac had already been informed at that point that he was done following the season. Chip Kelly could have already been contacted before the firing took place. The death threats claim just moved the timeline from after the season to after the UGA game.

This explains a few things.

1. Mac’s strange demeanor in press conferences. He knew the end was inevitable.

2. Stricklin’s positive demeanor in the press conference announcing Mac was gone. He already knew, through previous contact, one of his top choices would be a done deal.
I was told that he was ordered to fire Nusschump, but Butter refused and gave the old if you fire him, you fire me thing. Stricklin responded fine, sink or swim together.

Remember that the death threat BS was just the tip of the iceberg w him. There were alparently hundreds of incidents of insubordination.

Traditionally, Only Bud LIght keeps you out of the pit of misery. The royal council makes an exception for the Woodford Double Oak.

Dilly Dilly, good sir.

Dilly Dilly, indeed.

I'd have to see more video of him answering questions, but the body language seems to be saying "I'm about to be the guy." Shifting from one foot to another the way he is doing is often an excitement tell - paired with the exaggerated rocking I'd say he's hiding something. Hands in the pockets can indicate someone is trying to hide something as well. Given the context of the situation and the question and most tellingly the complete lack of denial; boys, I think this is our new head coach.

When someone gives you an answer that deflects or answers a question you did not ask - it is usually a sign of some kind of deception. He was asked what his interest was and immediately deflected while smiling. As soon as he finished what I assume was his pre-planned response to the question he knew was coming the hands go back in the pocket and the rocking starts.

Nervous laugh -- click. Eyes darting down and to the right -- click-click. Nervous shifting of feet -- click-click-click. Absolutely no attempt at a denial -- BOOM.

I'm not playing poker with you guys.

My view is this is a classic negotiation tactic.

Chip now looks like the good guy that all the fans and recruits want. He has put the pressure on Stricklin to meet his requirements.

This is a business negotiation plan and simple. Patience.

That kind of arrogance, if true, is exactly why these coaches go down. Bowden, Golden, Mac, all the fools do the same thing - loyalty to each other over school. Its such piss-poor decision making.

As rehearsed as TV tends to be, is it at all possible that this "spontaneous" exchange was pre-planned down to the minute details of Kelly's verbal and non-verbal cues in order to elevate ratings?

Regardless whether it was, I still think it confirms his interest/involvement.
You and I covered this already yesterday in post 1626 and subsequently later in follow up comments

I think that it was hit on the head with this tweet. It’s not being announced until after FSU. Let these guys focus on FSU. Regardless of the state of our program or their program, this would be a huge win for us. Imagine winning that game and then getting Chip Kelly immediately afterwards. There would be great joy in Whoville.

I'd think this could be a valid answer. So much so, I'd not bet against it.

But there is so much BS here and there it's hilarious. Quite entertaining.

I've got timeline dissonance. The presser where Mac brought up the death threats was more than a week later. The assumption then is that Stricklin was already leaning toward firing Mac and eating the buyout. Could be but seems a bit of a stretch.
Not if he is doing his job. He should have been meeting with potential coaches as soon as the CC scandal occurred.
