Imo, a good recruiter, like a good salesman, can close the deal. That is what Urban, and Saban, et al do well. I worry that Dan can't.
I 2nd that opinion. While I think he's head and shoulders a better coach than Mac, I'm not so sure he's much better as a recruiter. You're never gonna see Saban, Meyer, and for that matter Smart take so many lower level players at the start of a cycle. The players we have committed right now are fillers for coaches like those.

But everyone on this forum will say they are vastly underrated which could be very well true but what are the odds that 7/7 were rated incorrectly.

This is another kid who we've apparently moved in front for (he's a teammate of Jalon Jones at St. Francis):

https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2019/shane-lee-58117

Shane Lee
4-star
Inside linebacker
6'0'' | 235 lbs
CLASS OF 2019

Offer list includes: Alabama, Clemson, FSU, LSU, UF, Maryland, Nebraska.

Well, this kid is off the table (teammate of Jalon Jones):

Alabama beats out Clemson, lands commitment from elite ILB Shane Lee out of Baltimore

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/a...nds-commitment-elite-ilb-shane-lee-baltimore/

According to the 247Sports composite, Lee is the No. 3 inside linebacker and the No. 1 overall recruit from the state of Maryland.

The Tide now have eight players in their 2019 class. Prior to Lee’s commitment, the Alabama class was ranked No. 3 in the SEC and No. 6 nationally by 247Sports.

Were we ever in it for him? I don’t recognize his name as being on our board.

He was apparently offered when they went to his school to recruit Jones. They've offered a couple other teammates. Sucks Alabama lands him, I'd rather he go to Penn State or Maryland (outside of the SE).

Yeah, he's an "Alabama" Linebacker for sure! He would have been great clogging up the middle for us.

Our last highly rated ILB that I can remember is Daniel McMillan. And he was a bust. I don’t understand why they can’t get any ILBs here. We desperately need them.

I think he was a hard Bama lean before that visit, so not really surprised. Sure would have been nice, though.

Kid obviously sucks. He’s got nothing on [insert name of high 3 star that commits early to UF] who’s also a much better scheme fit.

Jimbo is putting together a good class:

Texas A&M: 4-star DT, DeMarvin Leal, commits to A&M. 6'4, 280lbs from Converse, TX - 7th overall DT in 2019 class and 15th overall player from Texas.

He always recruits well. Just can’t coach.
