I agree with you that simply taking a beating on that stage wouldn't do much good. But I don't think we would lose like that, personally. If we manage to win the East, we will be as battle-tested as they are and have a similar record, with several common opponents.
I think you are right and Mullen would do a much better job to at least prevent us from being steam rolled.

The LSU game will be a good measuring stick. Teams have put points on Bama this year. There is something to be said about a team that has it a bit easy for the first half and then find themselves in a tough game later in the season versus a team that got tested early.
It's true other teams have scored points, in the 20s, and that makes us think our defense could slow that offense. But I don't know, they are every bit as polished on offense and STs, if not defense. Seems like that offense is unstoppable and their OL is really well trained.

To your other point, I think the playoffs are different. Yes, they have it over the SEC but something happens in a playoff where teams from a different conference bring their A game and Bama just isn't ready- it happened vs Ohio State. I think they continue to look impossible to beat then more likely they drop one in the playoff. Like you said, teams have scored enough on Bama so one that does not turn the ball over and perhaps even creates TOs could knock them off.

Kentucky win the east? is this a serious question?
We're still pretending Kentucky's a great team right? Trying to downplay the loss?
I don't know if anyone is pretending anything but we seem to be a pretty good team and they beat us. It does not really matter why or what we were missing that game because were we to play again something else might loom as large or significant. We both get to play georgia so....

This isn't a '15/'16 scenario where someone has to win a terribly weak division and be a sacrificial lamb in Atlanta. I think it would be a legitimate game, and would help us from a perception standpoint.

That's my problem. I know this is a different team. But, I can't get that '15/'16 scenario out of my mind. And I do think we'd lose that bad because I think this bama team is that special.

I remember some people in '06 asking if we would be better off letting Michigan have that rematch with OSU since OSU were world beaters that year and we were doing just enough to win each week but it wasn't the prettiest. The SEC wasn't yet thought of as it has been since that year, that was the beginning of the SEC dominance. We got the chance and we gloriously stomped a mud hole in them.

Any given Saturday, even with Bama!

There’s a ton of football yet to be played this season before any SEC title game is played.

Yet, I will say this...

Restoring the Gator Standard includes the attitude and pure belief that we will play anyone, anytime, anywhere. As Gator combatants, they should relish the thought of kicking bama’s ass, should that opportunity avail itself.

As for this particular fan, I say bring on the challenge.

That's the message, enjoy the season. One game at a time. We are a long way from playing in the SECCG anyway. Big week and I am only thinking about the possibility of beating the nutlicking buttsniffing leghumpers.

I think winning the East will further establish DM’s rep with recruits. If we can look competitive vs bamuh, even more so. Gotta admit I won’t have a ton of confidence vs bamuh unless lswho takes them down to the final play in two weeks. First, we gotta see how our guys are able to handle the butt sniffers.

It did so well for McElwain's reputation... am I right?

No.

No. But pretending that it took a great team to beat UF, AT THAT POINT IN TIME, would be just as stupid. Just sayin.' Oh, and by the way, 6-1, regardless of who we lost to, is a gigantic step forward. Even my stupid ass knows that much.

A step forward compared to 2017, not 2015, 2016.

Absolutely lace them up and take on the champion. Every coach and player would say the same. Even if we lose we get a good bowl game and still close out the season with momentum.

If you want to be somebody...you gotta play somebody.

The East was bad in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and now we are acting like the East is decent now? LSU is our best win, and it's an LSU team that almost lost to butters last year.

Be careful what you ask for. I've watched those guys. It's a typical monster Bammma team with an atypical Bammma QB. He's real QB not a game manager.

That said bring 'em on, because that means we've beaten the Leg Humpers. Maybe Bammma will have a bad hair day.

We ain’t got a shot at Bama, not fun going to Atlanta when you know you ain’t got a shot. If we go 11-1 and still don’t win the east, then so be it. We just get to watch Kentucky get destroyed by Bama in that scenario. Would mean we beat UGAy and probably more importantly this year Fsu and should help some in this recruiting class. Getting a bump in recruiting is what this program needs more than anything right now.

This Bama team on their bad day still beats us by 3 td’s

Is there any part of you that would like to go 11-1 and let KY have the east?

I know that sounds weak and it probably is, but I fear we just don't have the roster to play with Bama...yet.

Probably moot. I can't see KY winning out.

Fwiw, I hate Alabama with a passion that burns as bright as the sun. My in-laws are Tide people. They were insufferable before Saban. You can imagine what it's been like since '09.

Just win, Baby. And play whomever falls our way...be it Bama or another. Right now Georgia is on the menu.

The East is a helluva lot better now than then. Much of that is due to our own resurgence.
