Perhaps you missed the part where I'm trying to turn over a new leaf, which was the entire point of this thread. Start posting again and be a part of it.

I didn't and that is why I bothered to type it up and just say... why I haven't been around as much.

I want every single member of Gatorchatter to make a post in this thread with their thoughts. No exceptions. Lurkers, pipe up.

I didn't know we were going to have homework. One short stream of conscious paragraph should be sufficient. I enjoy GatorChatter. I think of you all as my imaginary friends, especially Donk since he's obviously a cartoon character. The Sports Forum has been depressing for the past few months and I've stayed away. It's nice having some hope Gator football will become fun again, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Well Ox I can honestly say I wasn't excited over this hire. I am an SOS guy and always will be. I want the swagger to return to the sidelines. Everything Napier is doing are the right steps to bring us back to the light. I hope he can get more hires like the LSU one he just got.

Thanks DSS. All of you are more informed than I on the gators. Living in Mexico has advantages, ie health care costs, property taxes, and cost of living. Where I lag behind is current news on the gators. This is where gatorchatter comes into play. You all are my news source. If any of you need a source of becoming an expat, I am your guy.

Okay, I'll bite. And this will be long. This is my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.

If any of you have spent much time on Twitter you'll probably get this. Especially if you've ever posted something political. Twitter is a cess pool of people who log on just to fight with any and every post they can. It doesn't matter what you say, you're going to get bashed.

Social media in general has created a society of keyboard warriors who find comfort in attacking everyone they can while hiding behind a computer screen. 99% of the things they say online they would never say to your face in public. At least not 15 years ago. Now people who have grown up acting like clowns every day online have brought it to mainstream society and we have a generation of people rioting in the streets over some of the stupidest things in the world. You can't call a man a man or a woman a woman, etc... Down is up and up is down. Its ridiculous.

The bottom line is we've lost plain old decency, civilty and humility and I blame social media for every bit of it. And I've quit almost all social media platforms because I just don't need that crap in my life.

Which brings me to GatorChatter. For me, I don't mind if someone is negative or has a differing opinion than mine. I'm a member at Swamp Gas and have posted there in the past. Their control over the narrative creates a stale, boring environment that wasn't very interesting me.

Ox, you've created a forum here and allowed free thinking and differing opinions that make it definitely more interesting than most other Gator forums. Negative or positive opinions don't matter and just adds to its interest.

BUT, you've also allowed it to turn into everything I disliked about Twitter. The constant personal attacks on everything you say is intolerable. I don't need it. It's like there's a competition to see who can say the snarkiest thing or get the best dig in on EVERY post. And then the constant, what I'd call "smut" is embarrassing. I can't imagine how any woman or child could come on here and engage in talk with anyone. The mom jokes, the whack off gifs, and downright porn talk are also what turns me off about Gatorchatter. None of that has anything to do with the Gators, UF, or sports.

Again, these are just my opinions but I don't think I'm alone in them. If you're looking to change anything about GatorChatter I wish you would moderate the "smut" and personal attacks better. I can deal with the negative nellie's and the pumpers all day long.

Bash on!

Well said. One other things about the personal attacks and 'you mama" jokes is that they derail the threads. While I admit that I get a chuckle sometimes, I hate seeing the threads getting derailed.

My draconian tactics to control the misery are over - I think I made whatever point I was going for.

Discuss.

If by draconian tactics, you mean banning Swonkey, please keep them in place. If you mean anything else, good riddance. Draco was a dugan.

Here goes, many won't appreciate it.

I enjoy the board and any posters who interfere with than enjoyment get blocked. As someone says Simple!

Now to one of the real issues as least as I see it. We all have high standards for our Gators. Some put academics and personal development before just winning. Some insist that winning is a resultant and good play is what makes that happen. Some think that fancy facilities are the key to obtaining talent, while others believe that it is much more complicated that than and if you just have to spend money on facilities then not being at the top is better than participating in some war about facilities that you will never win. Some insist that say football is all that counts (perhaps men's basketball as a second) others insist that all our athletes are Gators and as such part of our family and deserving of our support.

So we have variety, that is good. Ox allows us to express our variety to a certain extent as owner.

Now the last question is what is the board to accomplish as its core. Is it a business, if so considering long term profit or value is the first consideration. Other thing can be considered but their effect on profit is always critical. Is the board a hobby to support something and provide a forum? If this is the purpose the criteria become much more complex.

So Ox think of what you want, do your research and then decide. You own the board thus you decide.

Sorry for the length but Ox asked and as owner I do what he asks.

I really like Billy Napier as a person and I like his football philosophy. As we say down south "he''s good people." I think he might better fit the culture at a school like Auburn than at UF. I hope he turns things around at Florida. It's going to be interesting to see how things go. If Napier can win big at Florida Gator fans will love him. If he doesn't do well get ready for the sling blade jokes.

One of the things that has irritated me about Florida football is when we lose a game or two it seems like the players and the fans throw in the towel and quit instead of playing things out to the end and finishing strong. It seems we think we are big bad Florida we should win all the time, but before you do the work and do it on the field then you just come across as "all talk no do".

As far as the board goes, let everyone have their say, both the "nattering nabobs of negativism" and the good natured pumpers. I think Ox does a pretty good job of knowing when to pull the plug when things get out of hand. I'm not going to say anything bad about anyone or get in some drawn out message board fight of all things, but I sometimes enjoy the banter and back and forth that go on here.

As Ox says he could try to develop a more even keeled board and rule with more of an iron hand if he was looking to increase the number of posters. I know he mentioned one time in the distant past that he was having wet dreams about the numbers VolNation had. But this place feels more like a community of characters. It's like any club if the membership gets too big you lose that sense of community.

I also stay on here because I like the pro-conservative right wing nature of the political board. Bashing liberals, and seeing them bashed, is a favorite pastime.

Right wingers, nut swingers, and mom bangers pretty much sums this place up.

I have always considered myself a "hopeful realist" when it comes to the Gator athletic programs ... an amalgam with shades of gray, not just black or white, positive or negative.

Not too dissimilar from the term "educated speculation"... which sounds much more refined than wild as** guess.
