Public humiliation has always been the best deterrent for a healthy society, and sadly we've gotten away from it in this country.

You should try it more with your students.

I could not agree more.
You may be kidding but I am not. This is one of the many approaches to human behavior and society in general that we have lost sight of while scratching our heads wondering what has happened to our country.

Public humiliation works in most any forum from dealing with athletes to managing a homeowners association. Instead of tap dancing around with vagaries and general comments, it is MUCH more effective to state specifically what the problem is and who is causing it.

Unfortunately, this is one of the primary attributes of our new snowflake society. Truth takes backseat to protecting ones psyche or feelings.

They should lose their financial aid, too. If you're brought on to a school solely because of your athletic prowess (as are 99% of them), then you should lose it all if you're worthless. Go get student loans like everyone else if you want to stay on and get a degree.

As a head coach, I would also make sure that any cuts I made were directly in front of the entire team, with the cut player having to clean out his locker while everyone watched in silence.
Wow! Old school.
