Interestingly, Hal Mumme is the Offensive Coordinator at Jackson State:

Gators sideline reporter Brady Ackerman getting back into coaching, lands position with FCS school

    https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/f...into-coaching-lands-position-with-fcs-school/

For the past eight years, former Florida RB Brady Ackerman has been very present around the program, serving as a sideline reporter during Gator football games, as well as in a number of other media roles.

However, he’ll be absent this fall, as he returns to the world of coaching, joining the staff for Jackson State University.

As you can see in Ackerman’s tweet below, he’s joining the staff as an offensive analyst for the FCS program, which plays in the Southwestern Athletic Conference:

Excited for a great opportunity to be back in college coaching. Headed to the #SWAC and @jacksonstatefb . Great run as @GatorsFB sideline guy, but time for me to do what I love, Coach! #DreamBig #keepgrinding #Gata pic.twitter.com/tvWAYxthRI

Ackerman has coaching stops on his resume, including Jacksonville State and Valdosta State.

He’ll be missed in Gainesville, but he clearly had the coaching itch, so it’s off to Jackson, Mississippi, for the longtime Gator.

Best luck developing coaching skills, Brady. Any recruits way too good for Jackson State, put in a word for UF.

Even our radio guys don't wanna watch the triple option. I've heard Ackerman say on the radio several times that Mullen ball wasbt his style.

Well he's probably seen enough bad offense in the last 8 years so he'll probably know what not to do....Good for him he was a pretty good reporter so we should wish him the best.

I don't get the move. He's going there as an "analyst"? Why the F would a 48 year old grown man w/ his background (playing at UF, working w/ Spurrier and other D1 coaches) go to an FCS school as an 'analyst'? What are they going to pay him? $12K? I don't think Brady ever made big money, so it's not like he's a Shane Matthews (who had 12+ years of NFL money saved). Maybe he wants to learn from Mumme? He could have reached out to Meyer, Strong, Mullen, or a number of other coaches he has relationships with. But he's going to Jackson State?

Maybe he knows there will be another opening on that staff after this season(OC or position coach) or something like that? He could have also been at a sticking point in his broadcast career too? Who knows...

Doesn't seem to be the best place to get a good coaching career going at his age.

We beat Jackson State in our opening game of the NCAA tournament when we won the 2nd championship in 2007.

Story on 247 says he wants to get back into coaching and wanted to get back w/ Mumme to run the Air Raid offense. Head Coach at Jackson State was a 7 year assistant under Mullen at Miss State.

I'm with you, I just don't get this move. I see no upside working at a tier three or tier four program for a tier four coach.
Being a sideline reporter must really suck

I guess there is a yellow ribbon awaiting around a tree at JSU.

But in all seriousness a school of that nature has a position of offensive analyst on the staff? Pardon me for thinking this but would that not be an unpaid intern position at most D-1 schools? Good luck with this one. As much as I can agree with Brady regarding Cousin Eddie, I doubt he will find much success watching Hal Mumme try and run a sideways passing game at a school like JSU!

Not at all. They have a dozen or more on most staffs and most schools make six figures. I have a friend who is doing it at a Big East school. He couldn't afford to take a Div 1AA position coach job when it was offered. And he is basically a lower level dude, just finished being a GA. It hasn't been a minimum wage position for people who just cut the film for over a decade.

The analysts today are expected to be basically capable of breaking down and grading all the plays to provide packages for the assistants and coordinators to use or at least choose between. Many are former coaches. At Bammer, many are former HCs or Coordinators making what position coaches make.

They also have the most direct contact with the players these days. Position coaches are limited, and they can't be present at things like "voluntary practices". These VPs are actually filmed and players get feed back on how they did the drills or ran the plays by the quality assistants, you know, not to coach them but to just ensure quality. Nothing like coaching at all.

These guys win games. There is a reason Bammer always knew our plays before we ran them and only part of it was Drunkmeyer.

To expand on Law's input, these "analyst" and "quality control" jobs have quickly become common in all of college football. In the late 80's they had the "restricted earnings" position (mostly in basketball) and there was a lawsuit that ended that practice. Saban can be credited with the increase in this, as he came back from the Dolphins job and implemented an NFL staff philosophy in college by creating "analysts" and "quality control" positions.

If you want an idea of what these guys get paid, click through footballscoop.com - they have a running list of ALL college football jobs open around the country; from D1/Alabama type jobs all the way down to Division 3 and JUCO. Many of these are unpaid positions, GA positions w/ a stipend and free tuition, some offer a $5,000 stipend but "no food or room". I'm guessing a lot of these jobs are filled by recent grads, a 23 year old kid who just graduated and hasn't started a "real" career yet or is trying to get into coaching. No way a grown man - like Brady Ackerman - is taking a $5,000 stipend. I'm guessing they're paying him no more than $30K. I can't imagine that the DB coach or RB coach at Jackson State makes much more than $50-70K. The DC & OC (Hal Mumme) probably makes no more than $125K (most 1AA head coaches make around $250-400K).

On FireFoley's comment about Hal Mumme's offense; go read the 247 article on Ackerman leaving. The Air Raid offense is being run by about 10 D1 programs right now, and Hal Mumme is considered the Godfather of it. WVU uses it, Oklahoma uses it (see below):

                      https://247sports.com/college/flori...rman-heading-back-to-what-he-loves-119351477/

“I’m excited to get back with Hal and run the most revolutionary offense in college football, Oklahoma, Washington State, SMU , West Virginia and Ole Miss are just a few offenses dominating CFB (that run the Air Raid),” Ackerman said.

Brady got a promotion already. I'm curious what the WR coach at Jackson State makes; over/under $30K?
