My wife is geographically committed to her “home” team. In pure classic Bucs fashion, they let hope dangle tantalizingly close into the last minutes, only to shove victory relentlessly into the jaws of defeat.
The most hilarious part of the broadcast, besides Winston’s inevitable collapse and pick-6 at the end, was when the announcers started gushing over the Bucs hiring Byron Leftwich to be Winston’s mentor.
Byron Leftwich.
In a way, it’s perfect because Leftwich was also a first round draft pick (#7) who went to a Florida NFL team (Jax) and was essentially unable to adjust to the speed and complexities of the NFL game. I don’t know if, for Leftwich, it was insufficient practice and study combined with over-reliance on physical talent or inability to translate his study, preparations and practice to games. But the bizarrely awkward implosions at key moments are eerily similar.
The major difference is I never suspected Leftwich was sociopathic. But you cannot mentor someone out of that, so no helping jaMEis there.
