Yes... I KNOW our football team totally sucks ass right now.
WE GET IT!

But I am very proud of the rest of the crappy, non-revenue, Foley-tainted, boat anchor, ugly redheaded step children Gator athletic programs.

Without all those alternative sports that Stanford and OSU have, we still managed to finish 3rd in the country:

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...u-directors-cup-standings-20170629-story.html

All schools:

And I love how the Sentinel lumps us in with ..."Hey, the clowns did pretty well too at number 13, so yeah, both programs finished in the top 15".
Like saying UF and FSU are two of the top 100 universities in the country (UF in the high 40's and the clowns barely crack the top 100).
Success by association I guess.

Go Gators.

There just as many points giving for 1st place for a sport that has 10 colleges participating as a sport that has 150 colleges participating. Complete bull sh!t.

Since they started keeping track of this particular award in '93, we've finished in the top 7 every single year.

Stanford and Florida are the ONLY two schools in the country to finish in the top 10 every year since '93.

Stanford, I think, has every sport known to man so of course they are going to win just based on sheer volume.
And like NV said:

But pOSU can eat a bag of dicks

Here's a quick review:

93-94: 4th

94-95: 5th

95-96: 3rd

96-97: 5th

97-98: 2nd

98-99: 4th

99-00: 7th

00-01: 7th

01-02: 3rd

02-03: 7th

03-04: 6th

04-05: 6th

05-06: 5th

06-07: 6th

07-08: 6th

08-09: 3rd

09-10: 2nd

10-11: 4th

11-12: 2nd

12-13: 2nd

13-14: 2nd

14-15: 4th

15-16: 5th

And in case you were wondering the :nole: in that same time frame only finished in the top 10 - THREE times:

09-10: 5th
10-11: 9th
11-12: 5th

And they have never finished higher than UF.

The lesson as usual: f*ck the clowns

Where'd they finish the others years? You know, so we can claim the state has a pair of top 100 contenders.

scUM only fields 17. That was a critical factor preventing them from joining the SEC (which required more - 18? 20?)

Not that they would do well if they did join, and with their issues who would want them.

Indeed. Back in the time when they were looking to move most of the speculation about joining the SEC neglected the math. No way could they join with substandard facilities, too few sports and lousy football attendance. (When the old 1-A and 1-AA categories were created, they drew the minimum attendance line just below scUM's 24k average.)

But the ACC was excited to get them. And scUM was supposed to dominate. They are basically a .500 ACC team and Richt can't fix that any more than SOS could get SC over the hump.

2nd for the men, 3rd for the women's teams...not too shabby indeed. As I said recently in another thread, considering the number of teams we field compared to others (like Stanford), I think we have the best overall athletic program in the country. Go Gators!

Who is ahead of UF pac 12 schools that play 40 sports? ;) It would seem to me no other college could have the run the Gators did the past 3 months. Womens tennis champs, softball finalists, mens outdoor track champs and baseball champs for the first time. How does that not get UF into the lead? Where was Stanford in those sports? Finals of women's tennis that is it.

The football team isn't bad won the sec east again. I know not a big deal but it is a deal and it does count.

Congrats to Gator sports on a fine year worthy of being #1. As others have posted can make a case as the #1 athletics in college. I wish the Gators would do better in the fall sports. Women's hoops, women's soccer and volleyball holding the Gator program back now. Very disappointing to see soccer and volleyball regress over the years when it should be getting better.
