I believe there has been a big misunderstanding. I believe the Dodgers offered 700 MIl YEN, since this player is from Japan. So when the Dodgers made this offer, ONE American Dollar was equal to about 150 YEN. So I believe that works out to about 4.67 Mil American Dollars.:exactly:

I have Asian neighbors. They are very friendly . One Christmas morning I got a ring on the doorbell, so I open the door to find the woman with a large and wide box . Thank you very much, I said. Then I take it inside and open it up it’s a box of apples…apples

Cool story. Are you sure she isn't Dutch?

from everything ive read, ohtani will be a DH only next season as his arm needs a full year from this fall before ready to go. maybe that's changed, but this is a hell of a gamble for a possible DH.
Yeah, I think he's done pitching for good. The contract is a joke.

Me thinks the encounter with your Asian neighbor went something a little more like this.

Okay, so the details of this contract.

He gets paid $2 million per season for the next 10 years with $68 million per season deferred.

Beginning in 2034, and ending in 2043, he gets paid $68 million per year for the next 10 years. He does not earn any interest whatsoever on the deferred amount. The present value of this deal is much less than $700m.

Not nearly as lucrative as the headlines make it seem. Personally I think it was a dumb move on his part. By the time he starts getting paid the big bucks, he’ll damn near be too old to enjoy it. And $2 million per year to live on, in California, isn’t that much.

He will turn 40 years old in 2043, and reportedly earns at least $40 million a year off of endorsements. I think he will manage to squeak by on a meager $2 million a season and still find a way to enjoy it in his old age. :-)

Gotta hand it to him. I guess this is the modern day version of Bobby Bonilla and the Mets. So when the annual annuity kicks in Happy Bobby Bonilla Day will be over and it will be Happy "Japan Guy" Day.

Yeah, he was already making 50 million a year before he signed this deal. He's probably going to be alright financially.

He’ll be nearly 50 years old when the deal expires in 2043. Like I said, he’ll probably be on Viagra by then and stuck with a 350lb wife who transitioned from male sumo wrestler to gold digger. Dire straits await because of this stupid deal.
