Our corners are the best pair in the country. I'm not convinced about our safeties. Not in coverage anyway.

The defense has had zero support for the past four seasons. Even with our OL issues, just getting the offense into the top 70 in the nation will reap incredible dividends.

Ranked 1st in something, yeaa. Get some heat on the QB from the Dline and those guys will be even better. I think we'll have a top 10 defense, getting just an average offense only will make every game winnable.

Great read, thanks for sharing. As others have said, I think with even a mediocre offense, our defense will be amazing. They were already really good with an offense that couldn't hold onto the ball. Imagine what they'll be like with a little rest between outings?

But but I thought the reason that Collins' stats were bad was because he had no talent in the secondary?

Could be :dunno:

I didn't follow their D all that much. They did hold down some pretty good teams in the west though.

It didn't help our win total but Muschamp running that TOP crap really helped our defense rest. I think our defense in 2012 and 2013 was on the field for less plays than almost all the other defenses in college football but we didn't score even though we ate clock.

That's a product of our defense being good, but I fail to see what it has to do with how long our offense was on the field? Our offense had a LOT of 3 and outs...A LOT. Sure they ate up some clock against the bad teams they could manage first downs against, but against the better teams I bet our number of offensive plays is way below average. You aren't the 100+ ranked offense for being on the field a lot.

Don't get me wrong we had a real good defense in 2012 and imo a good one in 2013 but not a real good one like in 2012 despite what any stats said because teams went conservative because we were literally doing nothing on offense after Murphy's injury in 2013.

I think there was a very strong correlation to offensive TOP with the teams that had the fewest downs played on defense if I remember right looking at that stat. I remember Louisville was near the top in both like us but unlike us they scored with their long TOP drives. Our TOP was mostly due to Muschamp ball of just wanting to run and eat clock.

This is spot on. Our D should keep us competitive in any game we play this year. I don't know how many times in the Musstank era that if we had an extra first down, and FG, etc. that we would have won those games we lost. But perhaps he would still be here. Fortunately he's gone. We have zero margin for error with mistakes, injuries, etc. But I just feel that there is no reason why Mac will not have better production this year. We've had crappy OL issues for a while now. I think Mac is the coach that will actually coach to help these guys. And yes we should be better offensively this year and he will scheme to get that production.

Great read, thanks for sharing. Let's hope they stay injury free and aggressive.
