Game 2 just got easier

East Carolina starting QB Kurt Benkert has been lost for the season to a torn ACL. Terrible news for the Pirates (obviously).

I played my football in the 60's. Maybe we just didn't know it but this epidemic of torn ACLs is weird.

Too much weightlifting too early in life. Puts a lot of stress on your ligaments. Kinda like the rash of Tommy John surgeries in MLB. Too much pitching too early in life.

I think the new turf fields (becoming widely common everywhere the past few years) are also part of the reason. They're great for cutting and turning on a dime, but they create more stress on the knee. Plus, if these guys are wearing any kind of high top or ankle brace at all, that's more stress that gets put on the knee.
