For all of FSU's recruiting accolades, they are failing when it comes to the WR position.

The entire 2013 crop of WR's have already left the program.

In 2014 FSU had what was widely considered one of the best WR hauls in the nation. They brought in 5* Ermon Lane (#3 WR), 4* Travis Rudolph (#6 WR) and 4* Athlete Ja'Vonn Harrison (#16 ATH). Travis Rudolph declared early for the NFL and went undrafted. Ermon Lane was a total bust at WR and moved to safety. Harrison left the team last season. That leaves FSU without a single WR from the 2014 recruiting class.

At ACC media days Fisher announced that redshirt sophomore receiver George Campbell is not fully recovered from his core injury that caused him to miss the entire 2016 season. Campbell is a former 5* that has massively underachieved. In his first game against the Texas State Bobcats he caught 3 passes for 42 yards. He has never caught a pass since then.

This leaves FSU dangerously thin at the position. They have only 7 scholarship WRs. One of those is injured (Campbell) and 2 are true freshmen. That leaves them with only 4 healthy WRs that have ever played in a college game.

If you look at the injuries at the position over the last couple of years it becomes clear that 7 scholarship players will not be enough in 2017.

  • Bobo Wilson missed the last half of the 2016 season due to foot surgery.
  • Travis Rudolph was limited in 2016’s fall camp due to a hamstring injury.
  • Da’Vante Phillips missed spring practice in 2015 due to a groin injury.
  • Auden Tate missed most of the 2016 Orange Bowl with a shoulder injury.
  • Ja’Vonn Harrison missed time in 2016 due to migraines.
  • Rashad Greene missed time in 2014 due to a concussion.
  • The aforementioned George Campbell missed all of 2016 due to a core injury.
  • Auden Tate missed time in 2015 due to a toe injury.
In the Orange Bowl last year FSU had to turn to walk on WR Jared Jackson. He did not catch a single pass. It's likely that FSU will have to depend on Jackson even more this season.

This is good news for the Gators. It may also have an effect on where Justin Fields eventually plays ball.

Hey Justin - take a look at our stable of WRs! We're gonna have an O-line for you, too.

So we will have more passing yards than them for the first time in some years.

And yet......... They've outscored us 58-15 in the past 2 years. And our offense hasn't scored a touchdown.

I'll believe there's some imbalance when we put a competitive team on the field.

Screenshot_20170620-221435.jpg Dawsey's development of WR's is like our WR development under Bush Hamden (or whatever the hell his name was) non-existent. Hopefully the lack of development of skill players will start to bite them this coming season on and off the field.
