May not be a life changing amount of money, but that's not what the former player needed from what I read in the article. He needed to get back home with his child. $5k and the other donations would do that.

Good move, doesn't cost JMac much but returns plenty in good PR and personal warm fuzzies. I don't see Saban or Meyer doing these kinds of things for their kids.
