Lots of other things to do, and it is a long way from campus.

Northern Illinois is hanging with the esophageal spasms. 10-10, nearing halftime.

Our recruiting is about to improve in South Florida. Show
them a picture of the empty stands and they'll come to
Gainesville.

Miami isn't relevant any more. And the fans in Miami, whether for the canes or the fins, have always sucked.

UM football has always been a tough sell back home, dating back to the 60s when Dad was earning his Masters and Specialists there and I'd go with him to the games (1967 - 72). After Hendricks left, they fell into a real funk in the early 70s, we'd go, but very few others did. I WAS there for The Flop, believe it or not as a UM fan. There weren't many in the stands that night, either. Of course, once I started at UF in the Fall of 73, that was the end of my association with the Hurricanes.

Went to our wins over them in the old OB at the end of the 73 and 75 seasons, and again after I graduated in 77. For all three, there were a LOT of Gators there, and not as many Hurricanes as they would have liked. I'm sure that bothered them. While their attendance did improve in the 80s and 90s, the main reason we stopped playing them was that we kept demanding, and getting, a LOT of tickets, and they didn't like that. Besides the economics of that, they also treated our pres, Dr. Criser, rather poorly at one of those games in the 80s. They needed us more than we needed them. They needed fannies in the seats, but didn't like it when we'd bring them. They raised the price on the tix on us, we said, take the long walk off the short pier.

Moving to the Dolphins' stadium has been the kiss of death for their attendance. It's too far to go, even though UM does provide transportation for their students. And on hot afternoons like this, I bet most of their students would rather go to the beach. Many of their alums are from elsewhere, usually up North, they aren't going to come back for a UM game. It's just a perfect storm of a lack of interest in UM football.

Great Points and when they are not playing that well many people are not going to see them. Dolphins have the same issues.
