Florida draftees ink contracts, Schwarz & Liput return
The Major League Baseball signing deadline on Friday has come and gone, leaving Florida with a clear idea which players it will have around to help defend its national championship next spring.
Among the returning veterans who were drafted are catcher/first baseman JJ Schwarz (38th round) and second baseman Deacon Liput (29th round).
Perhaps the biggest news was among the signees, as 12th round selection Tommy Mace, a right-handed pitcher, opted not to sign with the Cincinnati Reds. He'll head to Florida along with five other signees who were drafted but plan to head to college.
The Gators lost only three of their signees in the 2017 class.
