UAB's football program was ended after the 2014 season due to budgetary factors. It was a sad day for the players and their fans. This video lets us have an inside picture of a college football team that we as fans don't often get to see. The man being attacked at the podium is UAB president Dr. Ray Watts as he announced the end of the football program at UAB. Football at UAB returned this year.
Fan reaction as President Watts leaves the building. For a rather large urban commuter school like UAB sports teams go a long way towards making students feel connected to something. It also pulls a city together. Schools like UA-Birmingham, Memphis, USF etc. are not national powerhouses but they have players and fans that have a lot invested in the programs.
