Apparently she went through a lot of counseling before the transplant to make sure she wasn't actually suicidal. The family all along said it was impulsive and she didn't have suicidal thoughts. It's a crazy story!

I've heard that people who have had hand transplants mentally can't adjust to seeing the strange appendage attached to them and a great many of them need to have the hand removed because they can't deal with it. I can't imagine the adjustment that must have to happen mentally to accept a new face.
