The 10 most interesting stats from Week 1 (so far)

https://theathletic.com/93452/2017/09/03/the-10-most-interesting-stats-from-week-1-so-far/

Washington State’s Luke Falk completed his first 20 passes, and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield completed his first 16 passes.

Falk finished 33-for-39 in a 31-0 win against Montana State. Mayfield finished 19-for-20 in a 56-7 win against UTEP. Last year, Mayfield set the FBS record for passer rating (196.39). And Falk had 21 consecutive completions vs. Arizona in 2016, just not to start the game.

Alabama has held 67 of 139 opponents (48.2 percent) to 10 points or fewer under Nick Saban.
The latest is Florida State, in Alabama’s 24-7 win in Atlanta. If you take out Saban’s first season at Alabama, that number is 65 of 126 (51.5 percent). Saban is now 8-0 in neutral-site openers, with an average margin of victory of 20 points.

Kent State ran the ball on its first 26 plays against Clemson.
The Golden Flashes were trailing 28-3 before their first pass, which came in the second half. Kent State finished 1-for-5 passing (for one yard) and ran the ball 44 times. Offensive coordinator Don Treadwell is serving as interim head coach as Paul Haynes is on a medical leave of absence.

New Mexico State had seven sacks against Arizona State. It had 11 all of last year.
The Aggies haven’t finished in the top 100 nationally in sacks since 2009. In 2014, NMSU had five sacks for the entire season.

Army beat Fordham 64-6 without completing a pass.
It was the first time since 2000 a team put up at least 500 yards of offense without a completion. It’s the first time a team won without a completion since 2013.

Mississippi State held Charleston Southern to 33 total yards.
That averaged out to 0.7 yards per play. CSU went 3-for-8 passing for 15 yards and ran 39 times for 18 yards. Not a bad debut for first-year Mississippi State defensive coordinator Todd Grantham. CSU averaged 33 points per game last season.

Rutgers scored first for the first time in the Chris Ash era.
The Scarlet Knights went 59 yards in 11 plays for an opening touchdown against Washington. It was also the first time under Ash they led after the first quarter. Rutgers was shut out in four Big Ten games last year, Ash’s first season, and scored seven in two more games. The Scarlet Knights lost 30-14 to the Huskies, but it was a noticeable improvement under first-year offensive coordinator Jerry Kill.

Missouri quarterback Drew Lock averaged 24.8 yards per completion and 15.3 per pass attempt.
In a 72-43 win against Missouri State, Lock finished with a school-record 521 passing yards on 21 completions and 34 attempts, and he tied an SEC record with TD passes. In addition, Missouri’s 815 yards were a school record, and the 72 points more than the 69.2 the basketball team averaged last season.

At halftime, Florida had 75 yards of offense and 88 interception return yards.
The Florida defense scored 14 points on two-pick sixes in a 33-17 loss to Michigan. The Gators were sacked six times and averaged 0.4 yards per rush (including sacks). With 11 minutes to play in the third quarter, Florida had only run 21 offensive plays. The Gators’ offense remains a mess.

Texas has lost 40 consecutive games when trailing by at least 14 points.
The latest was a 51-41 loss to Maryland. According to ESPN Stats & Info, the last such comeback win for the Longhorns came on Nov. 3, 2007, when they overcame a 21-point deficit in the fourth quarter. The 51 points are also the most scored by Maryland against a ranked opponent.

Bonus stat: St. John’s (Minn.) beat St. Scholastica 98-0, a record for most points scored in an NCAA Division III game.

That is a perfect stat to describe how horrid this offense is.

Unfortunately this was against our beloved Gators

Honestly, I posted this article so we could NOT talk about how bad we are! But you're 100% right!

Take a look at some of the amazing offensive stats! And we can barely complete a forward pass....and cannot even average 1 yard per carry!

If anyone thinks "Oh, well Michigan is really good....we'll be fine once we make adjustments"....please STFU.

Let's go back to game 1 last year: UMass, who finished 3-9. We went into the 4th quarter with a 3-point lead; 10-7. We finally "pulled away" and won 24-7. TWENTY-FOUR points. That's it. UMass gave up a ton of points last year to trash teams.

James Madison, a 1-AA team, beat East Carolina 34-14 this weekend. We struggled both times we played ECU the last few years (the 2nd game was the year they fired their head coach). This offense is an absolute national joke!

Muschamp must be envious of that Army game.

Not a Mullen fan but they do seem to have a pretty good QB again to run his stuff so if that defense is truly improved they might pull a big upset this year and have a decent record.

If our secondary blows coverages like they did against Michigan a team like Missouri may give us more of a fight than we think.

I think Michigan is better than most expected. If the adjustment is to demote Nuss, we'll be better, but not fine. Michigan isn't Bama.

From the article:

Anybody remember that 2013 game? I'll give you a hint. The team that last accomplished that rhymes with Meorgia Mouthern.
