UF and Jim McElwain made that guys retirement much more enjoyable. He was a mid-tier coach at a mid-tier program, likely making around $80K/year. He likely made less than $1.5 million in career earnings as a football coach....but in just 3 years (plus 2 more due to his contract extension) we will have paid the guy over $2 million when he walks out of here. Talk about a "catch up" provision to your 401K.
It's disgusting. And the fact he is still coaching here (and got the raise and extension) falls on the UAA and our AD. In fact, Nord & Nussmeir's extension's and raise's have to be Stricklin's biggest black eye's so far as our AD.
If this AD f*cks up this coaching hire, he better be on 'the hot seat' of AD's. He seems like he's pretty squared away, so I hope he doesn't let us down....but if he does, Gator Nation ain't gonna be happy!
