(from Thomas Goldkamp):

Why it's EXTREMELY unlikely McElwain gets fired in 2017

With all the extensions for assistants last year, here's what the total staff buyouts would look like if they fired the staff in 2017: $18.52 million.

After 2018, that number drops to $11.5 million. Every assistant is signed through 2018, with Shannon and Rumph signed through 2019.

Here are the numbers each coach would be owed after 2017. Figured posting this info will help people have a more realistic approach to things as the season progresses and the heat possibly intensifies.

Money owed following 2017 season*

$12,500,000 - Jim McElwain
$1,800,000 - Randy Shannon
$1,200,000 - Chris Rumph
$842,725 - Doug Nussmeier
$456,000 - Tim Skipper
$420,000 - Greg Nord
$355,000 - Ja'Juan Seider
$325,000 - Brad Davis
$325,000 - Corey Bell
$300,000 - Kerry Dixon

* If fired, McElwain is owed $2.5 million per year left on his contract.

You couldn't have scripted a bigger cluster if your name was Murphy.

Was Foley Irish?

This asshat knew exactly what he was doing with those extensions before the season started.

The extensions last year were absolutely beyond belief and everyone involved should be terminated.

If we fire them next year we save $7 million in buyout money. How much do we lose when the stadium is literally 55-75% full? They have to give back half (or more) of their road game tickets (back to the home team school)? Loss in other revenues, etc?

Just do what Al Davis did to Lane Kiffin: Fire him for cause and say "sue me".

Kiffin did sue, and lost.

Didnt Kiffin get left at the airport? Wasnt even let on the plane or bus or something like that for the ride home?

Man that would be great to leave Gainesville on the bus for this weekend and someone stop Mac from coming on and saying, "get lost".

I just heard from a "source" that the guys over at 247 are saying the "death threat" thing may be McElwain's "frat house" moment and he could easily be fired 'for cause' if there's no proof (this is coming from "Hollywood Bob" and Franz).

I truly believe he's said that to try and take heat off himself and his staff. If people hear I'm getting death threats they possibly will look it as just football. If true though that's sad.

I'm one of the biggest fans just as all of you but I don't wish Mac any ill will and wish him nothing but the best at his next job. I hope it's not true and that he's just trying to take heat off himself. He should have saved it for after Saturday's game
