He was a beloved classic for me.
Every afternoon at 5pm in the 90’s our local radio station would play the Rest of the Story. The guy next to me at work knew not to talk to me when it came on.

As a former radio DJ, this guy was our gold standard in the field of country music- the Casey Kasem of the country countdown. And as far as I know, still buried in Texas.

You won’t recognize his face because you probably never saw it, but his voice on the series of NFL Films was legendary. Loved them as a young man and still today!

This guy was incredible.
He was THE voice of the NFL for our generation.

Wow, that one hit the target.
I am sure that much of this was scoffed at in 1965 but certainly rings true today.

Dizzy Dean doing the play by play of the Baseball Game of the Week with his sidekick Pee Wee Reese was a treat to listen to. It was sponsored by Falstaff Beer and during rain delays Diz would probably have downed a few before he broke out in singing the Wabash Cannonball. It was back before people got screwed up, had a sense of humor, and could laugh at themselves.
